Lord of the Rings, anyone?

Did anyone see this cover and think--What the hell? --Lord of the Rings. I know that's what popped into my head anyway. I thought it was a LOTR spoof or something until I read more into it and found out it was a 'retelling' of Beauty and the Beast and took me forever to find the damn thing bc it wasn't even listed as Blood of Beasts or whatever.

I haven't seen it. Really have no desire to.

But I was just wondering....

Did anyone else think this?

Yeah, pretty shameless really. Horrid movie!

I noticed that right away... i thought it might be a spoof also.. but it sadly is not. Haven't seen it, going to watch it now.

reply

yeah me and the wife saw the same thing and had to laugh.

reply

Same here. At a quick glance I thought it WAS LOTR. Then I figured it was one of those pornish spoofs or something. Do they really expect us to take this seriously?

I totally agree, how dare they compare this garbage to a true classic such as Lord of the Rings.

I also saw it, and thought of LOTR right away. They should be sued, especially since LOTR DVD covers and posters have such beautiful artwork. I have also seen another cover that looked like one of another film, but cannot recall it now... oh well. Anyway, I have not seen this one, it looks like a cheesy rip-off of several other adventure movies.

EDIT: I remembered the other rip-off. It was a film called Thief Lord - one of its cover art images looks almost exactly like The Brothers Grimm cover.

Sued, huh? Nice to know that LOTR apparently has the market cornered on beautiful cover art and posters. Since when did it become a crime to make your cover art appealing to viewers? As for "supposedly" copying LOTR, call me crazy, but if I'm making a low-budget movie like this, I think I'd take every advantage I could to reel in a viewer. A unique cover doesn't always grab your attention like a well known cover.

I actually can't believe how stupid all you people are. Seeing as Lord of the Rings itself is based on/influenced by an incredibly old legend, the last thing anyone should do is judge about rip-offs. This film has a typically fantasy cover - of course it's gonna look like Lord of the Rings. I could show you so many film covers that look similar from way before Lord of the Rings. I myself love the Lord of the Rings, but I realise that it is not the be all and end all of movies. Maybe this film was made to cash in on the Lord of the Rings following, but isn't that true of nearly all films. How many films can claim to be original in idea? There are so many stories out there that would make great films, but aren't made because producers don't expect to make money. After they see a film like LOTR they then give permission for similar films to be made. This doesn't always mean they'll be crap and made solely for money. All you posters need to broaden your horizons and realise that there is a big world out there. I wouldn't put it past some of you to think that The Hobbit was a spoof of The Lord of the Rings.

Spaced Out,

Before insulting the posters here, maybe you should take a look at the cover to see what they are talking about. Nobody thinks this movie is a ripoff. They are simply pointing out what is obvious to everyone - that the cover is an obvious ripoff of the covers of the LOTR movies.

It's not just because it's fantasy, but because of the lettering font, coloring, images laid out, and overall tone. If you blur your eyes, it looks just like LOTR. I think it was obviously intentional - but I don't think any smart viewer is going to buy it thinking it's part of the series, lol.

I only watched it because I've been a Jane March fan for years, but unfortunately she seems to have lost a lot of what made her so magical ten years ago. Not a good movie, and sad to see her doing these kinds of "B" movies.

Same thing came into mind too..however I have never seen this movie yet..

When I saw it at the movie store, I thought maybe it was just some crappy spoof trying to make a buck off of the LotR hype.

Haven't actually SEEN the movie though.

I saw it a couple times in Hastings (local video/game rental and bookstore) and passed it by twice. I finally decided to watch it after watching the Original Dungeons and Dragons. They have an actor that i like that is the same. Perhaps the quality of this movie isn't as high as Lord of the Rings, however I found it to be a beautiful retelling of the "Beauty and the Beast" tale, set in the era of the Vikings.

And ThiefLord is based off a book also, and the book is better than the movie, however the movie isn't bad.

Actually the film is nothing like Tolkien's epic. I think it is a decent lower budget film.......once you get passed that blond surfer dude!

Sorry that you guys are offended by the cover done in the same way as ''Lord of the Geeks'' it's in no way the same movie !

And a lot of movies do the same cover as Sin City theses days, and no one complain ?

Apparently you people haven't watched all that many fantasy movies before, if you automatically think it's LOTR related just because it has a woman with a bow on the cover.

reply

Yup. I saw that too. Really confused me. I have no desire to see it, especially since they ripped off the LOTR cover.
