Can anybody tell me...(SPOILER ALERT!! - DON'T READ IF NOT SEEN!!)

Can anybody tell me how 2 kids with a revolver and an almost empty machinegun, can manage to evade over 20 missiles that can turn an island to rubble, not to mention the 200-odd soldiers that were swarming all over that hole they were hiding in?
I mean,I suspend a little belief when I watch a movie, but this ending was just TOO unbeleivable in the sense that they should have ended up as paint like the rest of the soldiers on the island when everything went up all 4th of July...

Deus ex Machina,anyone? ;)

Just wondering.....

Apart from that,I actually enjoyed the movie quite a bit...a bit of Rutger Hauer in Wedlock,as well as a bit of Private Ryan thrown in.

reply

Easy! The missiles hit the 200-odd soldiers, but missed the two kids. ;)

reply

Umm...maybe I missed something, did it show them alive after the credits or something? As far as I know they died.

After the island is blown up, there's a scene that takes place "three months later" in what is presumably Afghanistan. The few surviving students and terrorists who escaped down the tunnel finally meet up with Shuya Nanahara and Takuma Aoi, who have miraculously survived the bombing and made their way to Afghanistan. Shuya is surprised to find Noriko (his girl from the first movie) among the welcoming party. Shuya despairs over the fact that once again, the people close to him have died, but Noriko consoles him and tells him that a better day will come. The group goes their separate ways--Shuya, Noriko, and the little kid terrorists in one car, and the surviving Shikanotoride Jr. High kids go somewhere else--but not before vowing to remain friends.

Did you NOT see that sequence, which came before the closing credits? The OP was talking about the implausibilty of Nanahara and Aoi surviving the final missile attacks on the island (not to mention the soldiers sent to kill them).

reply

I believe Allenj saw a pirated version I know to be floating about which cuts straight to the end credits after Shuya and Takuma escape. IIRC the guy recording it didn't realise there was anything after that somehow.

I'm Addy. Just Addy. From God, to Kane, to Addy.

reply

LOL that serves him right for watching a pirated copy....Just kidding i watch downloaded stuff everyday :P

It was because of that sequence that I asked the question in the first place;)

Don't let my logic get in the way of your stupidity

Nah, there was a Roman chariot drawn by a white horse named Miracle, with tap-dancing Ethiopian slave Josephus at the reins. It showed up, whisked Nanahara and Aoi away, and left the remaining Japanese soldiers at the mercy of the missiles and a giant cloud of cannabis smoke.

The worst ending of all movies history !

I may be wrong, but there's a possibility that everyone had died at the end due to the missiles, meaning the outro scene is actually meant to be a form of "Heaven."

I'm not saying I believe it's meant to be this way, I'm just saying it could be a possible interpretation.

Thanks,

Ah, it reminds of the director's cut of Butch Cassidy where Paul Newman and Robert Redford inexplicably and suddenly wind up safe back in the states where they meet up with whatsername and live out the rest of their lives as school teachers....
