the movie (trailer) and the book

i just watched the trailer, and one part of it does not sound like the book at all. i mean, ok, the movie is a different interpretation and it doesn't have to be the exact same thing as the book, but still. in the trailer, the narrator says "he's got 24 hours to find paulie" and it shows clips of toby and zach and probably cal drving around trying to find paulie. also, i don't get the feel that it takes place in the 70s, and an important part, i thought, of the book was when *SPOILER FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN'T READ THE BOOK AND ARE GOING TO*

cal's brother died in the Vietnam war. i don't know, i guess i just want the movie to stay true to the book. hopefully the movie is good. i want to see it.

I worked on this film for a week and can tell you they've updated the story to the present day, so Cal's brother died in the Gulf. There were some scenes added for cinematic effect (there's a bit with a train that I think isn't in the book) but mostly I think it tried to be fairly faithful.
