It's an indie film so it probably doesn't have a distributor. Look for it at film festivals.

Thanks for the information. My son stunt doubled for Jonathan Lipnicki in Zachary Beaver. He is in the first few moments of the film....the kid swinging from the grain mills and catwalk. We have been looking all over to see if we can get a copy of the film....thanks! I'll let you know what I find.

I get it now *bright light bulb shines above head* thank you kind person. And I do agree with you, there should be more "Family Films" that don't push the envelope as much.

I was wondering if this movie will be on video or in theatres in the near future because I read the book and theourly enjoyed it and I really want to see the movie

reply

Well, if you live near Austin, Texas, you would be able to see it because they just had the premire last night. I really want to see it, and of course, with my bad luck, I live in MINNESOTA! My theater got My Big Fat Greek Wedding about 3 weeks before the video release date. Anywho, I have no further knowledge (sp) about the release date besides the Texas one.

The premiere was in Austin last Friday night (Oct. 10). I took my two sons to see it at the invitation of Hudson Long who played the snowcone vendor in the movie. I thought it was very good. There are a lot of changes from the book, but I believe they caught the spirit of the book. After the movie, there was a Q & A session with some of the cast sitting on the stage. At that time, John Schultz, the director, told us that there was not a distributor for the film yet. I think they are using the premiere screening to make release decisions or something, as we were all given questionaires to fill out. One question really irritated me. They asked why we had gone to see the movie. There were several choices listed, but "I enjoyed the book" wasn't one of them.

I saw the film at the vail film festival last month. It's a really good movie. After the film they had a Q&A with Jon Lipnicki and the director. Someone asked if this movie was going to be released in theatres nationwide, they said they are looking into it right now and most likely will happen later on this year.

what happend ????

reply

I've seen this movie at the Vail Film Festival too (and it's a marvelous film!). I recall that I've heard about the release problem of this movie due to the fact that some kid in the movie is being baptized (?!spelling?!) in a lake, not done by a proper priest but by just an ordinary guy. I'm not sure if this was told at the Q&A at the festival or that somebody of the festival staff told about it.

i saw it in a film festival in april

i just bought it yesterday at walmart for $5.50 in the dump bin.

I just saw this on cable -Showtime on Demand. I enjoyed the movie and was surprised by the harsh comments on this page. Zachary Beaver is a sweet, quiet old-fashioned family film, which I would not hesitate to recommend for children age 10 or thereabouts. Reminded me a bit of "Because of Winn-Dixie."

I wasn't watching it to see a remake of a great classic, or to see oscar worthy acting, so I throughly enjoyed it.

Soon, being that fat won't have the "WOW" factor it still does today.

Obesity in many ways is a choice and we certainly can't go around telling people what is best for them to "choose" or not, now can we??

What group has the rallying cry of "MY BODY, MY DECISION"?

And how is the choice to be fat any different from them?

"Go back to your oar, Forty One."
