I've read quite a few negative and positive write ups about this movie. Lol, (seriously, I'm laughing while writing this) it's just a movie! God da?&$! If you are looking for a deep philosophical commentary, pick up a book. If your looking for just good silly fun, then enjoy. Seriously, If you are expecting Hollywood to educate and inspire then don't hold your breath, as that sort of thing is slow and coming. Even those kind of shows, when they do appear, have detractors. Since one can research a movie before watching it, you've no one to blame but yourself for being disappointed.
Read books and study if you want a history lesson. If you want to shut off, relax and go along for a fictional adventure, this will work. If not, turn the channel or turn it off

Movies are open to opinions, even negative ones. It's a bit of a guilty pleasure for me, but honestly it does earn a lot of the criticism it gets, even if I do enjoy it

No offence, but it's people with an attitude like yours that allows so much junk to continue being made.

Some people just want to switch off their brain and be numbed for a couple of hours by 'good silly fun'. Some like a bit of intellectual and emotional stimulation thrown into the package.

Ummm....then watch the Discovery channel.

Anybody looking for intellectual stimulation in a Dracula movie should have paid more attention in school.

Some like a bit of intellectual and emotional stimulation thrown into the package.

that's why we have genres. action, drama, suspense, horror.

this was an action movie with elements of horror. if you wanted emotional and intellectual stimulation why not pick up an oscar winning movie? im not defending bad movies in general because I really hate Transformers for example, but with Van Helsing, it felt like a love letter to horror and monster fans.
it felt like a cool action fun movie. it was like a fun theme park ride, i loved it

This movie was so bad that I swore off vampire movies for good after it. Enough with the goofy playground shit.
