The monster mash

This film had its' drawbacks, some of the CGI was a little weak & some other things were so-so, but honestly, I thought it was a cool tribute to the old Universal films from days gone by & I thought the way it was shot, so dark & scary, the music, costumes, casting, everything was just perfect for the story. And the women, I mean, damn...hard to take your eyes off them. All in all, just a fun movie to watch & I enjoyed it. Too bad they didn't do a sequel.

I love the movie, but part of the reason I do is that I love the original Universal Monster movies too, warts and all. So when this movie comes along, with it's clanky special effects, it's goofy writing, and it's over-the-top acting, I love it like I love the original Universal movies with their clanky special effects, goofy writing and over-the-top acting.

I think that's the movie's biggest strength and biggest weakness at the same time, it perfectly replicated the atmosphere and style of a Universal movie, with a bit of a modern edge at the same time. As a result people who love the Universal Monster movies will love this movie, but if you can't get into either, that alone explains why not.

This comes in for me somewhere around an 8.25 out of 10 stars. Take away the Jeckle & Hyde scene, help Kate with her accent, & clean up some of the CGI ruff spots a little & I'd give it a 9.5 out of 10. Lots of fun, kinda scary, sexy women, dark in tone, coolest Dracula ever, & it even has heart. Gotta love it.
