The deconstruction of already falling stars

Michael Shanks. You had been let go from SG-1, I see. But why, just why waste your time with this piece of (deleted)? Hacks everywhere, no talent in sight and you sign up for it. What's up, mortgage too high?

Aw, come on -- Sumuru was cheesy, sure, but I thought it was a lot of fun. In interviews, Shanks has called filming this movie his "paid vacation". I admit, as movies go it's not the best in the world, but sometimes I just want to watch something entertaining, and this worked for me.

Regardless of how you and I feel about the movie, the actor is going to have to take some low-budget jobs for a while just to build his career. He's done very little television apart from Stargate, and while that has been a successful show, it still might leave his resume' looking a little thin once it's time to move on.

Michael Shanks has nothing to be ashamed of with this film. It's not going to set the world on fire but it is what it is. Just a fun, fluffy B-movie and Shanks does a great job. Adam Wade is very likeable and "everyman" but he also comes off as a natural leader without being all "alpha male" about it. Michael Shanks carries off his one one-liners with ease, has great chemistry with the rest of the cast.

And there were some scenes which, if you didn't know the context within "fluffy low budget B-movie" would be great acting in ANY caliber project

The scene where Adam admits to Sumuru their real reason for coming to her planet is so earnest you know there was no way she was going to not help them. There wasn't anything silly about it, though in the wrong hands it could have been overwrought and unconvincing. Instead it was a beautifully acted scene and Alexandra Kamp was good in it as well. As they both are in the scene where she finds out the truth of her planet's history and he comforts her. As a big plus for this kind of film, he's got good comic timing and so is a natural with the snarky one-liners.
