Things I hate about this movie

1-Worst soundtrack that I've ever heard in a movie...
2-Bad acting overall
3-Mischaracterization of the actors...Pat Morita looks the same in a 25
years period...
4-Not even one single exciting scene...
5-Several unnecessary scenes
6-Forgettable dialogues
7-Boring like you can't imagine
8-The characters are not well developed...you don't feel anything for these
people at the end

The only remarkable thing about this is that it makes you appreciate more directors like Martin Scorsese.

Not recommendable at all!

so whats your point.

reply

Yeah man, I don't know WTF is up with that soundtrack.

new york 1966... hmm, lets put some 80's metal guitar solos here to capture the essence of the 60's for the viewer...WHAT THE *beep*
yeah. i liked the movie, but the soundtrack really hurt the film. piss poor at best. the only part that felt right was the "gin game" scene with mr miagi.. i mean "lee".

Worst thing is that nickname is Kid

but Imperioli looks like 40 and a grown man at Stueys age of 20 already

they should have hired Michael J Fox rather to play that role

reply

nah, stu was too confident to be played by Fox...he would shake too much

reply

Pat Morita in real life looks pretty much the same as he did 20+ years ago.

reply

re: mjf shaking

thats just mean man haha

I enjoyed the movie. Definitely not a blockbuster. I read a bio by VinceVanPatten that said there was a book about his life and he wouldn't be surprised to see it turned into an Academy Award movie haha. Wouldn't bet on it Vince.

reply

Mike Sexton wrote that sorry, not VVP.

reply

haha or a young Emelio Estevez. He was supposed to be 17. That was laugh out loud funny when they actually tried to I.D. him for some wine. The five o' clock shadow hung like an elephant in the corner.

reply

that was his real nickname

reply

The book (one of a kind) was a good read, the movie was kinda cheesy.

reply

Ha, the feeling was shattered. His life was down cocaine alley, he "changes" reunites with his kid, everything turns out the way we wanted and BOOM... the *beep* Marc Eric with his wanna be Edge riffin' comes poppin up.

reply

You took the words out of my mouth ! This was like watching an ESPN movie. By far the worst sound track in the history of movies. Also to be a movie about poker, there really wasn't very much poker being played. Note to others. Save your time and watch a good poker movie "Rounders".

reply

Amen to that one. I rather watch Edward Norton play a prick than Imperioli try to be something other than a mob hand.

reply

Anyone know why they didnt use the real names of these people. Like his wife's name in real life is Madeline not Angela and his daughter was Stephanie and was JT supposed to represent Jack Strauss. Because that move with the 7-2 is attributed to Straus I believe. So why not call him Jack Strauss and he was not alive when Ungar won in 1997. These are some of the things I didnt understand about this movie.

reply

wow, i was hoping i wasn't the only one completely horrfied by the soundtrack. truly deplorable. i tend to agree with a few of the first post's points about other aspects of the film... although it did get better in the last 30 mins., in an anti-"Blow" kind of way. i don't think that Imperioli has cracked a smile since infancy.

reply

I think Mick Jagger should have played the role! hehe i think Unger looks alot like Jagger in his late years

reply

No good sex scenes. Stuey was a freak in the sheets, yet, no mention.

That dude bagged hookers like a store clerk bags groceries.

Coh-cah-coh-cah-coh-ca-coh! G.O.B

this was just a poorly put together movie all together...you have no sense of caring or sympathy really for the main character...after read the book you feel that sense of knowing who stu ungar is...noone wants to watch a movie about someone they dont like, yet you feel you HAVE to watch a movie about someone you care about...good films pull you in this one pushes you away with a very sad and bitter portrayal of ungar and his life witch looks mildly boring compared to his ACTUAL life!!!

"Stay classy San Diego, I'm Ron Burgandy?"

I completely agree with you on every one except for #6-Forgettable dialogues. Thats what i love about this movie. Yea its not good, but its cheasy enough, and 80's enough to be awesome, if not comical. #6 is the one saving grace this movie has.

on another note, i am an amateur poker player and chose this movie because i know about Stu Ungar and read his bio, this is so horrible and inaccurate its laughable. Also he was always known as "The Kid" because he actually looked like a freakin kid till he was 24. Look at a picture. Michael Imperioli was the worst freakin choice ever!!!!!!!

this movie is so boring it hasnt finished and i typed this whole thing

he is a junky now, possible interest.....

reply

I have to agree with all the above. Usually you would think a movie would spruce up someone's life and make them seem perhaps more extravagant and glamorous than they really were. The interesting this with this movie is that it does the opposite! Ungar'a life was one thousand times more interesting than this movie leads on. I do not hate Imperioli as most of you do, but he definitely did not fit for this role. Whoever in an earlier post asked if JT was Jack Strauss, I think he was supposed to be Doyle Brunson. In real life, Stuey at one point did go to live with Doyle to try and clean himself up. However, he did not stay long and I doubt he was clean for one day. For anyone interested in Stu Ungar, I won't be the first to say READ THE BIO BY NOLAN DALLA INSTEAD! That's where the action is at.

Ignore the smoke.

reply

I came here just so I could hate on the soundtrack. *beep* worst soundtrack eva!!

reply

I was laughing at the bad acting (especially Stu's girlfriend and Vincent Van Patten). I quickly tired of most people acting like they were extras from The Sapranos.
