Why so many handicapped people in this film?

Not just Rocket but a lot of very fast cameos and one-line parts by people who are obviously handicapped. Any reason for this?

The whole movie is about people with an obvious abnormality trying to make it in Hollywood. People with disabilities were getting their shot at stardom by being featured in this movie. Plus, the underlying message of movie is all about acceptance and understanding, so featuring them in the movie is just conveying that message further.

The Farelly brother's have cast handicapped people in a few of their movies beside stuck on you, like shallow Hal and Mary and they even have Producer credit for the Ringer. They like to help the challenged community and portray them as everyday average people living in society.

I would agree. The 'handicapped' are a part of our society, most of them quite capable of handling having jobs, etc, and I like that the Farelly's put them in their films, as that is what everyday society looks like. Their films may be a suspension of belief, but they include the scope of the public that actually exists! Kewl.

Retards? How insensitive, insulting can you get. Don' care what you think of me. I know you are a complete insensate when it comes to developmentally disabled people. Cripples as you express and "retards" are persons with who happen to be crippled and/or retarded. One's diagnosis is only part of who they are in life.

As Mr and Mrs Potato Head says "I'm far as I'm concerned you're all just common
tators!!!

My friend was an extra in "Fever Pitch." She has MS and is in a wheelchair. She is in a scene at an outdoor cafe (Drew Barrymore doing her seagull imitation.)You may not have not even noticed her because she is eating, laughing, and socializing just like everyone else. We have a great time together and she is actually more fun than most of my other friends. We go to ballgames, restaurants, comedy shows, and shopping. She drives a car and lives in her own home. She dates able-bodied men, sells real estate, raised a fine son as a single mother, and is a substitute teacher. Those who made rude comments here could only hope to be a fraction of the person that she is.

God bless the Farrelly brothers for stretching the boundaries of actors and actresses in Hollywood. This is what makes them aces in my book.

You are kidding right?

reply

Why not? I work with handicapped kids who think they do not have the ability to go to Hollywood and be in movies... I tell them it's WHO you know and make connections to... go out there and try!!!
