Total inconsistency from last spy kids movie

Okay this has really been bugging me. How is it in the last spy kids movie that Carmen and Juni were total enemies and rivals with the giggles (Gary and Gerty as well as there whole family) and now suddenly there best friends with each other and fighting the toymaker togehter in this movie.
I kind of understand with Gerty since she helped them a little in the last movie but Gary has bad boy written on his head at the end of the last one and now he is suddenly good and helping them. It was strange they didn't offer any explanation to this at all as to how the the giggles went from bad guys to suddenly being best buddies with the cortezes.

None of this movie made sense but I always assumed that Gerty dragged him along or he did it for Carmen.

I want Sean Whalen! I want him bad!

I think just like how their mother sorted out her husband, Gerti must have at least told her mother about the way Gary acted so he got sorted out too I guess.
