What was the significance of Jeremy sleeping with Lisa?

The reason that I ask because it had no cause and effect relationship to plot of the entire. Even if Mirabelle did discover Jeremy's one-nighter; she can't bad mad because they weren't in a relationship with one another.

it was simply to put lisa in her place...so to speak.
it expands on it more in the novella, but basically lisa is the antithesis of mirabelle...and even tho lisa has many men in her life, she want the one that mirbelle has, so she plots to take ray from her, even if only for one night. she mistakes jeremy for ray and...well its a small triumph for mirabelle. and nothing at all between jeremy and mirabelle..this was months before they got back together and mirabelle was still curently involved with ray...so just a humorous little side trip

The film really didn't give a lot of depth to Lisa's character. Her one-nighter with Jeremy came out of leftfield with no resolution.

I don't think she wanted a one-nighter at all, she wanted a rich boyfriend who would buy her things, just like she thought he was buying things for Mirabelle. Sleeping with him was the price she had to pay. Don't you remember her telling Mirabelle how important it was to give the guy you want plenty of blow jobs and tell him how much you love it? That was her plan.

Humor. My wife and I laughed throughout the scene, when Jeremy kept repeating "Oh Ray" having no idea what the phrase was supposed to mean, thinking it was some mantra or something like that.

"Enough of that technical talk, Foo!"
