a guy's take

if - when you look back on the decisions you made - if you made the right one
youre very fortunate

mirabelle gave ray her heart - offered it to him with cupped hands
i dont think most men know exactly what this offering is worth
how delicate a heart is when it is given
(know = appreciate)

or how strong a woman's heart can (will) become once it recovers from having been broken
(strong = iron willed and bulletproof)

that's when the guy - if having reconsidered his decision and wanting another chance - gets his payback
(guy = fool)

when that heart that had been offered freely and completely has closed
shut (and completely)

here mirabelle's heart held no malice toward ray but neither would it allow ray to hurt it anymore

and i think that's the difference between a woman's heart and a man's

ray gets to live with it now
(it = regret & sadness)

and some guys know how ray feels

Though Martin is merciless at parsing the pretension of the contemporary art scene — the critical jargon of “dichotomies” and “dialogues,” with inanimate works mounted to converse with each other; the intentionally bad creations that offer “comment” on the whole racket; the sudden vogue for, say, framelessness — its suffusion with international cash clearly thrills and animates him.

Such a great summation, onleft23. I love this little film.
