This is such a beautiful movie....

so much in here to love.

1. Tom Hanks. In all the forms.
2. Hero Boy is such a little man. Love him!
3. Hero girl is going places!
4. A whoooooooole lotta symbolism goin' on.
5. Men doing a song and dance number serving hot chocolate. Where's mine?
6. Serious adventure ~ some of those train rollercoastery scenes freak me out!
7. Children being sweet to one another. Sticking up for each other. Working together.
8. I don't know why people don't like this animation. I think it's beautifully done.
9. Steven Tyler singing as an elf. I laugh hysterically every time. Ridiculous but fun.
10. SANTA!!!!!!!!

Ok, there are some hokey parts. Find me a holiday movie that doesn't have at least some. I don't hum these songs in July (like "I'm Mr. Heat Miser" for example). You don't have to like it and I won't argue but I watch it every year because my nephew (who is about to turn 29) told me about this movie when it first came out because we read the book when he was little. Maybe I'm just sentimental but this classic goes right beside Charlie Brown's Christmas, Rudolph, and Frosty in my collection.

This is why I still love this film:

"At one time most of my friends could hear the bell. But as years passed, it fell silent for all of them. Even Sarah found, one Christmas, that she could no longer hear its sweet sound. Though I've grown old, the bell still rings for me...as it does for all who truly believe."

I am almost 70, and the bell still rings for me.

Merry Christmas everyone!

It really is a beautiful magical film with a very appealing story.

This is a great movie, we all need to learn to believe in Santa

Righto - the animation, criticized by some fashionistas here, lends itself real to the wintery storybook feel.

the movie sucked

I like this movie and watch it often, but my only gripe with the animation is the eyes of the character. Eighteen years have passed since this film was made and computer animation can really improve this.

I honestly would love to see a twentieth anniversary re-do with some touch-up in the animation and maybe an accompanying IMAX run before Christmas.

The rest of the animation is fabulous IMO. I grew up in a post WWII house with steam heat, and they nailed hero boy's house and neighborhood perfectly. The train was perfectly rendered and I absolutely LOVE the North Pole city with the side streets between the many brick buildings.
