It Is Quite Good

I was lucky enough to have the connections to have just seen a special advance promotional screening of this movie. It is a good and powerful film that should touch the heart of any one other than the legions of rigid, non-thinking fundamentalists.

Jessica Lange and Tom Wilkinson are wonderful. By not choosing a younger, "pretty boy" for the TS character, it drives home the fact that this condition can exist in anyone.

I agree with the others that this has the chance to be an incredible force for good. It could help foster increased acceptance of people who are doing nothing else but bravely being their true selves, knowing that as it stands now, they risk losing everything near and dear to them.

I AGREE WITH YOU. TOTALLY.

This film 'Normal' is excellent. Made me cry, especially the part where Wayne [son] breaks down and cries after he and Roy were physically fighting.

Brilliant piece of work which I just happened to come across at my local library. Tom Wilkinson was excellent as Roy, as was Jessica Lange's Irma. Loved Clancy Brown [Frank, Roy's boss] in it too. Everyone played their part beautifully. If ya loved this one, you'd have to love 'Transamerica' too. Another great piece of work and Felicity Huffman was fantaaaaaastic.

Keep 'em coming!

On seeing this film a second time recently, I loved it even more. The courage of both the main characters was phenomenal. I simply have to have this film in my 'watch as often as possible' library.

It seemed such a waste of a very handsome, sexy guy wanting to be a woman but I'm sure they're out there for real. It is very flattering to have men wanting to be women. It says a lot about the gender. If I had a husband like that wanting to be a woman, it WOULD be devastating. Jessica played it beautifully.

Can anyone recommend any other films he [Tom W] is as brilliant in.

Clancy Brown is a gorgeous piece of man too. Mmmm! Married but, as is Tom!!!!

Woe is me!!!

Seems such a waste to be a woman? That's a little insulting don't you think? Like you said, it's "flattering" when a person feels like they were always a woman. But your post was sort of confusing. First you say what a waste, then your flattered, then you say you'd be devastated. It's almost as if you're saying it's okay if the guy was already ugly and wanted to become a woman, but if the "guy" happened to be attractive well then that sucks? It's probably not what you meant anyway but that's what your post came across as. And this may be a shock to you, but believe it or not, but there actually are a lot of transgendered women who started off as good looking sexy "men" and become good looking sexy women as well. So it's not like a "oh my god what a loss!! To become a woman when you're already a sexy man!!!! Oh boo hoo."

You are all right! I was blown away by this movie. I am a huge Tom Wilkinson fan. I am very happy to see he is up for an Oscar this year but sadly, he has deserved one, two or three in my mind for so many other movies.

I want to find this movie to buy.

Tom Wilkinson is a terrific actor who takes roles that others would run from, and he handles them with dignity and finesse. He was also excellent as the mentally ill attorney in "Michael Clayton." Actually, he was the highlight of that film for me, even though his role was fairly small. In "Normal" he is convincing from the first scene, and he never lost my attention.
