Mafia Movie?

Probably not.. but I've read a couple of user comments and am fascinated at how many posters would like to see "Mafia" made into a movie. Some even casted actors/actresses for roles. I like the idea. Joe Pesci for Paulie is obvious... who else?

reply

Probably a bad idea to make Mafia into a movie. I mean, it makes a great game, but it uses so many cliches (Which is fine in a game) that in movie form it would be just another mob movie. Parts of it would be laughable. For instance, the part in Mafia where Tommy uses a gun left for him in a bathroom is taken straight from the Godfather.

Guys when I first played that game, I fell in love with that game and I easily gave it the rank of best game ever for myself offcourse, I ain't trying to convince you people that think as I think anyway. If you've seen "Once upon a time in America" that movie would look preety similar to Mafia, I've forgotton the scenes but at one point you would think that this is somehow related to Mafia. It might be my feeling though!

You better understand me!

reply

I think the movie would be good. But only if you use the right parts. Like leave out the racing level and all the stupid stuff. But I think Pesci wouldn't be good as Paulie. But here are my choices.

Tommy - Jude Law
Paulie - Michael Imperioli I think that's his name. Or Steve Buschemi.
Sam - Since he doesn't talk much in the game, it's best if they don't have a big name for his part
Frank - I don't know anyone that would be good for this role
Serlione - Harvey Keitel

My name is Jim...some people call me.....Jim.

reply

Ben Kingsley would be perfect for the role of Frank.

reply

Salieri - Paul Sorvino
Paulie - Joe Pesci
Tommy - Ray Liotta
Sam - Robert DeNiro
Frank - Ben Kingsley

Director: Martin Scorsese

reply

Why do people think Joe Pesci is good for Paulie?

My name is Jim.....some people call me.....Jim.

reply

They are both alike. Daniel Vavra based the character Paulie on Joe Pesci. He just thought it was a good idea.

reply

Yeah, but he also made Paulie younger and less plumpy.

My name is Jim.....some people call me.....Jim.

Frank: John Spencer (the guy on West Wing and The Rock,he sounds like him and looks kinda like him)

reply

Tommy - Jude Law
Paulie - Joe Pesci
Sam - Ray Liotta
Salieri - Paul Sorvino
Vincenzo - James Gandolfini
Morello - Harvey Keitel
Ralph - Steve Buschemi
Lucas - William Fichtner
Norman - Brian Cox

Director - Martin Scorsese
Writer - Oliver Stone

reply

I always thought Paulie was based on DeNiro because Paulie has a mole on the side of his face like DeNiro did, but Pesci would probably make more sense. I would love to see a movie made from this, but some of the story seems to parallel parts of both the Godfather and Goodfellas, so they may be reluctant to make one. All the same, I just won the game last night, and would go see a "Mafia" movie just for the killer ending.

You've got to be joking? Jude Law as Tommy? you're kidding right?

anyway here are my picks for the actors to star in this movie (does anybody know the contact details of Francis Ford Coppola or Martin Scorsese?)

Paulie - Michael Madsen (or Joe Pesci, depending on the height of the character)
Sam - Andy Garcia
Tommy - Ray Liotta
Don Salieri - Chazz Palminteri or Paul Sorvino (can't split either one)
Luigi - Steve Van Zandt (as he currently looks in "The Sopranos")
Vincenzo - Paul Sorvino or Chazz Palminteri (can't split either one)
Frank - Ben Kingsley (a little makeup, put on the glasses, bingo)
Ralph - Steve Buscemi (maybe he can work on that stutter)
Lucas Bertone - i keep thinking of Joe Pantoliano because of his NJ accent
Detective Norman - Jude Law (maybe if he put some weight on)

Let me know what everyone thinks

reply

New idea for a great director for such a movie:

- SAM MENDES (Road to Perdition)

reply

Alright, here's my idea:

Tommy: Scott Caan(i think he can do it)
Old Tommy: James Caan (a nice cameo)
Paulie: Michael Madsen (Pesci's to old now)
Salieri: Harvey Keitel
Frank: Ben Kingsley (he looks like him)
Sam: Ben Affleck (it's kinda like Dogma)
Morello: Robert DeNiro( he's got the badass attitude for beating the crap out of people who crash into him)
Vincenzo: I unno
Ralph: Steve Buscemi(who else? eh)
Luca: Joe Pantoliano
Norman: Alec Baldwin (screw the accent)
Sarah: some new girl

Directed by: who cares, as long as it's good

They'd have to change the story abit. They can't have just tommy fighting all those guards on the last mission by himself. It'd be like a james bond movie. If they show Tommy not trusting Sam and he goes to pete's then calls the cops, that could work. The cops could bust in after Tommy shoots those two guys at the start then it's even. And for other missions, Salieri would have to send a lot of other men with Tommy, cause it wouldn't be an authentic mafia movie if it was ALL tommy.

reply

It won't be a movie... but if it does, here is my opinions:

Thomas 'Tommy' Angelo - Jhon Travolta (his voice is the same, and if his hair will be "tommy" style, he would make a great character.)
Paulie - Michael Imperioli (pesci is too old and short :<)
Don Salieri - James Gandolfini
Sam - someone not fimiliar
Ralph - steve buscemi (of course ;>)
lucas bertone - someone like buscemi (only a little more good looking)
Vincenzo - jhon goodman (he can loose a few pounds)
Luigi - dunno... but he better be good!
Frank - Ben kingsly (of course!!!)
Detective Norman - Robert De'niro
Sarah - Cara buono
Don Morello - Al pacino
Yellow Pete - someone not fimiliar
Michelle - Kate winslet

Oh man..when I looked at some of these cast ideas, I laughed...I can't believe somebody put in the names of the main cast members of Goodfellas for the main roles as well as the same director! Another thing so many of these guys are too old...you need to get some fresh faces in there, not guys who are now 40+ to play a young man gone into the crime world.

what about a role for Johnny Depp...he could do it

The best casting for Tommy I've heard yet is John Travolta. John would have to lose some weight, though.

The most obviously agreed selection is Ben Kingsley as Frank. Good choice. I was thinking of him in the part when I was playing the game. He would have to practice a much more stronger voice. This line can sound completely different from Frank and Ben Kingsley: "These guys are invading our territory. We can't allow them to go any further." But still, a good choice.

Michael Imperioli is an excellent choice for Paulie. Add a scar and a mole, and bada-bing, "Let's kill those bastards!" I was also thinking that those long lapses of silence in the car on the way to a mission could be some excellent points for dialogue, such as Paulie describing his first mission where he had to threaten a guy, then whack him the next day with a gun. Except the gun jams, and he pulls out a knife and tries to stab his target in panic. The target reverses the thrust and cuts Paulie's face, and Paulie, displaying his first sign on trademark anger that will follow him through out his career as a Mafioso, stabs the guy in the face nine times before cutting his throat.

I was thinking of Craig T. Nelson as Sam. If he lost some weight and perhaps used a wig, he would be a good Sam. Someone would have to be able to pull off a death scene, and Craig seems to be very good at it.

Don Salieri is a hard choice, and I think the reason is he is based off of so many people, like Paul Sorvino, Chazz, De Niro, and all those other actors. So I'd have to go completey out of the box and choose Kenneth Branagh. He's not Italian, which Salieri almost seems like. Add some prosthetics, a hair dye, and Branagh is Salieri.

Steve Buscemi as Ralph is a good decision. And since Ralph and Lucas Bertone are played by the same voice actor, wouldn't it be great if Steve played them both too? With a change in posture, maybe some facial hair, Buscemi could pull it off.

Vincenzo could definitely be played by Chazz Palminteri. He has the right sort of gruff, almost raspy voice that Vincenzo has.

That's all for now. Also, possibly some cameos from the original voice actors in minor/supporting roles?

reply

Maybe Martin Sheen as Salieri?

Morello-(Woods would be okay but..)Robert Duvall
Ralph-Buscemi (I think we all agree in that)
Paulie-Frank John Hughes(he plays Bill Guarnere in Band of Brothers)
Frank-Kingsley (of course)
Vincenzo-James Gandolfini
Salieri-Martin Sheen?
Tommy-Val Kilmer
Sarah-Mira Sorvino
Norman-Harvey Keitel
Sam-John Leguizamo

I love how after this guy mentioned that this was going on for a year, the comments just stopped. It's good because most of the choices were bull.

Tommy - Tom Cruise
Paulie - Chris Penn
Sam - Brad Pitt
Salieri - Michael Kane
Morello - Ewan McGrecor
Frank - Ian McDiarmid
Sarah- Nicole Kidman

Whoever said John Frank Hughes as Paulie hit the nail on the casting head there and then excellent choice !!

Morello - James Woods
Vincenzo - James Gandolfini
Salieri - Tony Sirico (a few pounds added and he`s your man)
Frank - Ben Kingsley
Ralph - Sean Penn (never happen but neither will this movie or any other actors in my cast)
Detective Norman - Brendan Gleeson
Sam - Paul Sorvino <<< had a hard time with that one still not sure about him
Tommy - This is the hardest of all the cast because i cant get young De Niro playing him out of my head :(
Lucas Bertone - Adam Goldberg

reply

*Tommy is Ray liotta ,Ray liotta is Tommy
no one can play him but ray!
*Daniel craig is a good choice for sam, or val kilmer
*paulie,a taller joe pesci could do it!,,Deniro is too old, so this goes to Joaquin Phoenix!! he is good for sam too! but paulie should be more italian though!
*kingsly for frank
*Norman,Philip Seymour Hoffman!
*Don salieri-a fat old mafia,Jack Nicholson,Albert Finney or Christopher Walken.....or Eric Cartman!!!
*Morello the bastard and his brother,Clint Eastwood and Jon Voight, Voight can be replaced by Micheal Douglas
*Sarah!rebecca romijn or Scarlett Johansson

-Have you found Jesus yet,Gump?
-I didn't know I was supposed to be looking for him, sir.

yeah well Joe Pesci is a great actor but his to old now. The best actor for Paulie would be Michael Imperioli from The Sopranos his very look-a-like and he can act very good as well.

Like some other posters said, it might fall flat as a movie simply because so much of its material is taken from famous mafia movies. I have nothing wrong with this, and it isn't that distracting from the gameplay, but if you make a movie of it, audiences and critics will take issue with it. Examples:

Paulie is directly based off of Joe Pesci (the voice is similar, though the face is more like DeNiro's)

Don Salieri is loosely based off of Don Vito Corleone

Major similarities in the mission "Bon Appetite" (Godfather references in parentheses):
Salieri's (GF=Vito's) bodyguard Carlo (GF=Paulie) calls in sick on the day of an assassination attempt. The Don later sends one of his men, Tommy (GF=Clemenza), to kill the traitor.

Tommy (GF=Michael) retreives a gun from a bathroom to assassinate a councilor (GF=Sollozzo). It's even the same gun (.38 special)!

In the mission "Just for Relaxation" you have to steal the Scorsese import boxes. I don't even know what to say about this obvious reference.

Many of the characters are taken from The Godfather, GoodFellas, Once Upon a Time in America, etc. in looks, attitudes, and motives.

etc. etc. etc. I'm just saying that many of the situations or characters in Mafia draw so heavily on mafia movies that people might accuse it of outright stealing/plagarism. Still, I'd support a Mafia movie, though it would need significant changes in certain parts.

Paulie- Quentin Tarantino
Sam- ?
Don Salieri- Paul Sorvino
Frank- Ben Kingsley

Davy Jones: Pimp of the Sea

reply

Don Salieri= Martin Sheen, he fits perfectly with the game's character. Old but not too much, a little gut and blue eyes.

Frank= David Hyde Pierce. (dyed?)

Luigi= Paul Giamatti?

Paulie= Joaquin Phoenix.

Sam= John Turturro. Tall guy.

Tommy= Christian Bale / Steven Pasquale / Edward Burns.

Vincenzo= James Gandolfini. (thinner)

Don Morello= James Woods.

Sarah= Angelina Jolie.

Well, they're missing some characters; Luca, Ralphy...
Anyway, all actors/actresses would need some modifications to be adapted to the characteristics of the original personages.
