Did anyone else think it odd

that no relatives/friends of the other missing girls were in the search party? Was the movie set in a time before telegraph became widely available?

I also have to note how slender Cate Blanchett is. Even with all the clothes she wore, she looked so svelte. More than a little envy here.

No, sorry, I did not find it odd at all. In one case, that of Elisabeth Moss' character, we saw the baddies kill the folks she lived with, so I think it easy to assume similar slaughters might be their standard procedure. Aaron Eckhart's character also had a bit of a rough time from them. In such cases, in those days, it could be quite some time before more distant relatives would be notified of the problem, and much longer still before they could get there to help.

Agreed, Unless other relatives lived close by, they wouldn't hear of the scenario for quite some time.

What I thought was odd and somewhat inconsistent was that a tribe that placed a high value on the connectedness of family would take in a white man who had abandoned his family. Plus, Jones' murky explanation for that abandonment to his daughter near the end seemed to compound that perception.

Nevertheless, I thought the elements of the Apache brujo, the supernatural and human trafficking were a unique combination I've never seen in a western before.

Pros and cons, a "popcorn movie".
