Excellent film. Terrible Title!

I loved the balance between storytelling and the focus on the main characters, found the movie highly entertaining. I even liked the ending, but what's up with the title? Oh, well. the title only hurts for a second.

By the way, is there anything Charlize Theron can't do?

The Title is simple... Head in the clouds about charlize not wanting to know about war or real life.. Head in the clouds about the french not knowing the purpose of charlize sleeping with the nazis.. Head in the cloud about towsend not knowing she loved him and did what she did in the end for their love..

nice explanation cindymook.

this title may be meaningful but not surely a one that makes a person interested to see the movie.

If you think the original title is terrible then read this: The german title is "Die Spiele der Frauen" which translates into "The games women play". Not only is it worse, it also completely misses the point of the movie. I almost skipped an excellent film because of a stupid name. At least Head in the Clouds somehow makes sense.

Good point. Sometimes, when I'm reading translated subtitles, I wonder how accurate the translation actually is and was the translation done by the same people who wrote the instruction manual for my DVD player.

Actually the title didn't make any sense at all. It sure didn't fit the story or the characters. They all were brave people with their feet on the ground.

I agree. I thought it was pretty random, like a Seinfeld film title.

I'll suggest in its place "What Really Matters". That would have been catchy at the box office.

It's possible that the working title could have been "Head in Her Muff", that they then adjusted for wider audiences.

that's funny, i reacted to the title also, makes me remember when a movie title "like in heaven" or something was taken, so they went with "ass in heaven" instead, excuse me, i mean "as in heaven". i just thought while watching if this movie taking place in the 1930's, was actually shot in the 1930's, you wouldn't have all these nasty scenes in it. strange that a movie with such well known actresses doesn't have one recognisable actor in the leading roles, closest thing the leading male reminded of johnny depp, and the guy playing her daddy looked the same as he did in octopussy 20 years earlier.

from black and white in frame,
you're here today,
with all your life,
setting a flame around,
as i tried to deny,
you threw on fuel and played my mind,
in living colour as i unsuccessfully tried to put you back in b&w.
