well you can say that about a lot of films

Dirty Dancing 1, for instance, would you really say that some of the songs from that would fit in with the 60s?! "Yes" and "Time of My Life" sound distinctivily 80s

Thats what some people like about Dirty dancing, the mixture of music from the sixties and modern music (for that time anyway- now its dated to us as well)

HA HA HA! There was certainly more sense of the 50's in this one than the 60's in the original! They didn't even try to change the 80's look of many of the dancers. Still the original is much better.

I think this is one of those movies that is meant to be anachronistic. The story takes place in 1958/59, but it has elements from the 80s, 90s, and the early 00s (when it was made), hence at times it didn't look and feel 50s, but I feel that was done intentionally. I really liked the style of the movie and thought it was pretty clever of them to do that.

I would've prefered it, if they'd stuck just with the 1950's. The mid 00's weren't a great time for music. But I suppose they needed something more modern to rope in the teens.
