I showed this to a couple of friends once.....

Know now these friends I speak of are Liberal Christians. They are not the type of Christians that if you don't convert, they will keep harrassing you until you cave in. They are very accepting of who I am, regardless of how much of a mirror opposite I am of them.

With that having been said.....

One night they showed me a documentary called the Cross, about Arthur Blessitt. Having found that movie interesting, I decided to show them a movie I just so happened to have in my car. High Tension was that movie. So we watched it. I almost expected my friends to freak out within minutes, because of the bloody violence and overall unpleaseant tone. But they ended up watching the whole thing (pausing it only once for a bathroom break).

When we got to the end, there was a complete silence as Muse's "New Born" played. Finally, breaking the silence, I asked, "So, what did you two think?" I almost expected my friend to take the DVD out of the player and fling it at me, telling me that the movie sucked. Instead, she said that she loved it, and my other friend expressed his love for it too.

But then came the gripe. They didn't like how it ended. That, I answered with "You two and over 100,000,000 horror fans worldwide".

So it was an interesting night. The Cross (2008) and High Tension as a double feature.

that was the dumbest, most arrogant thing i have ever read. just say, that YOU did not like it. keep the rest of us out of it. or watch "sinister", if that's more your cup of tea.

No way, Sinister is not my cup of tea. I'm more into Ichi The Killer, The Untold Story, Cannibal Holocaust, and lots of other crazy $h!t that a lot of mainstream moviegoers wouldn't dare watch!

well, nevertheless. it is still YOUR opinion. i knew quite a lot of movie buffs that loved high tension.

also, i consider the movies you named very good, but they are still pretty mainstream-ish.

well, at least we both didn't like sinister. ^^

I just had a thought. I'm supposed to have another movie night with these same friends that I showed High Tension too. Maybe I should show them one of the following:

1. Funny Games (2008)
2. Cannibal Holocaust
3. Saw
4. I Drink Your Blood
5. Pieces

I can tell you right now, I'de get some interesting feedback no matter what film I show them.

Since then I have had a movie night with these same friends of mine. They showed me and my g/f a movie called "Soul Surfer", which I did indeed enjoy. But then came the time to show them one of my films from my collection. The movie ended up being The Shining. They ended up enjoying it, despite it being too long, and at times incoherent. But I did explain that the movie was meant to be dream-like, almost like a nightmare. Looks like I got a couple up and coming horror fans under my wing!
