This should have gotten the same treatment as Pirates

So, the Pirates of the Caribbean rides at the disney parks left a lot room for artistic license as far as plot and all that, and i think the same is true for the Haunted Mansion.

sure, there are a few specific ghosts that have rumored plots/backstories to some of them, but for the most part, the main Haunted Mansion we all think of is in New Orleans Square, Disneyland

so, the pirates movie franchise got phenomenal writers, an appropriate cast to fit the characters, and was even a great action movie. (say what you want about the sequels)

so, why oh why was the haunted mansion, my other most most most favorite ride/attraction, turned into another moronic eddie murphy piece of crap?!?!

(eddie murphy is good for that, and also anything involving being in drag/fatsuit combo)

i would love to see someone try this again in a couple of years and give it the treatment it deserves.

but it won't happen.

i do understand that the difficulty is to make it a "haunted house" movie while trying to keep it a family flick....but come on! if they can do it w/ pirates, they can certainly do it w/ ghosts!

i can only hope that they give this another try...

Well, the comics are good, so maybe they can base it off of those

Thanks for referencing the comics, I just picked up the hardcover 6 pack. I can't see how they will ever remake this. Horror is very hard to make family safe and Disney has its image to consider. I don't think I've ever seen an effective horror-comedy. The Evil Dead series is neither a gem in either genre. Drag Me to Hell had an evil talking goat and was more funny than scary. You're either too much of one or not enough of the other.

Surely one of these or one of the others listed by others has amused in the slightest? This film is at least on par with Casper... though that's kinda insulting to Casper.

Even Buffy the Vampire Slayer the movie had it's moments.

I know we all of our own tastes in cinema, but not ALL Horror Comedies are awful.

no kidding don;t try to make a kids film, make a film that is for an older crowd, kids will see it anyway and the reast of us will actually watch it.

This ride has a lot of potential for a good movie. Maybe even a scary stop-motion version. You know, a bit in the style of Coraline. I think they'd better use the version of the haunted mansion in Paris, Phantom Manor. I'm 19, but the story still creeps me out a bit. I would love to see this being made into a movie!

Well, I guess we're all in luck. It was just announced that Guillermo Del Toro will create a new Haunted Mansion film (and it won't be a comedy, thank god).

And they aren't returning Eddie Murphy's phone calls lol.

With him cowriting adn producing, and possibily directing it, we should have a good film for a change this time and possibly get an actual frachise going. MAybe if they make a sequel they could do Phantom Manor and take the storyline from it a bit.

Seems the "reboots" are coming quicker & quicker these days (Spider-man anyone?)

Del Toro will be producing and maybe writing, but NOT directing...I wonder what they'll name it? Haunted Mansion 3D sounds kinda lame..or maybe take a note from The Final Destination series and DROP the 'The' & just call it "Haunted Mansion" (also kinda lame).

Good news!! Your vision will soon be brought to fruition! Filmmaker, Guillermo de Toro has announced that he will be creating his own version of The Haunted Mansion that'll be designed to be a bit scary & creepy, just like the ride. New Director, Cast, and Story! This should be fantastic! =)

I love Pirates but still find the idea of turning a theme park ride into a movie silly.

Why?

Hold onto your hat - they've just announced that they're turning "The Jungle Cruise" into a movie, and have already signed Dwayne Johnson to star in it. I kid you not.
