Fun movie a lot better than a 4.9

Can't trust the ratings, Eddie Murphy is always good

I agree. This movie was a fun, different movie and it shouldn't be taken so seriously! The rating is far too low in my opinion :)

People are a bit to harsh on this but then it's isn't aimed and those people.
It's a kids film and I find it frustrating when anyone over 20 moans it's not scary enough, or it's too silly.. Duh.. you're not the target audience.

I found it fun.

I totally agree. Even though I'm an adult, I thought this movie was pretty good for what it was intended to be (and that is -- a lighthearted fun family film aimed at children). I watched it with my cousins, aged 10 and 6 and we all enjoyed it and had a good laugh. So I think the imdb 4.9 rating is too harsh.

I agree. This is a kid's movie and my kid watched it endlessly when he was young. I had fun watchong it with him. What else do you need from a kid's movie? It deserves a better rating.

WE GOT MOVIE SIIIIIGN!

Eddie Murphy is "usually" good. The Haunted Mansion was a good family movie if you've got young kids and you're a Disney/Haunted Mansion fan or just enjoy a ghost story. The thing is, how much of the target audience is young kids who need easy laughs (which Eddie Murphy is great at) but can't handle things that are too scary, and parents who have to sit through a movie with their kids?

The problem people have with the film is that The Haunted Mansion ride has such a huge following, even for a ride, and everybody loves being scared, and since the Pirates of the Caribbean movies did better and pushed the bar for a Disney movie so much they expected that same care with The Haunted Mansion. The only problem is, the humor is only funny for younger kids (I was about ten when I saw it and even then the comedy was meh), scares that aren't scary and a love/"mystery" story that's more painfully obvious than an episode of Scooby-Doo.

Can't be too careful with all those weirdos running around.

I agree with the original poster ! Great movie

I liked it when I was 11, since I saw it in theatres and thought it was fun. I was also scared of the Disney Ride, but the film and the haunted Mansion holiday ride got more interested into the ride.
But looking back at the sets are nice, the makeup is nice, however the comedy isn't really funny, and the scares aren't scary.
The film was made by fans, but I feel like they didn't know how to end it since they took the ghosts to heaven, but the ghosts like haunting and living in the house. It's part of the mythos of the attraction.

If they were fans, they apparently weren't big enough fans to not taint the name recognition and "brand" of the ride by making an embarrassingly bad movie based on it. The only thing they even took from the ride was some of the imagery (which looks better in the ride), the film doesn't capture the tone and atmosphere at all, and the story doesn't fit.

It's poorly written, poorly acted in many instances, it's not funny or scary, and it has nothing to do with the actual Haunted Mansion.
