Voted it a 3 because...

This is a very interesting story.. however, every story can't be made into a good film, this is (IMO) one of those stories. I found that it just wasn't interesting at all. Every character got on my nerves and the ending was uneventful. I thought that the actors did very well in their roles, but overall, this is a very boring movie.

Wow... I thought the exact opposite... I think they took a pretty boring and average story and made it pretty damn good to look at...

Plus, you would have had to have been around for the early 70's to understand.... which i wasnt... I'm just assuming...

I thought it was based on a fascinating story, but then I'm something of a devotee of that era in music history.

For a small production movie without much studio support, I think they did a pretty good job. Of course there are a going to be the "authenticity" maniacs who pick apart every movie and book that comes out and if it isn't completely accurate tear it to pieces. I think the fact that the movie's director announced at the beginning that some facts were fudged took care of that. And if one checks out the q/a about that on this website one will find the answers to the quesions regarding the issue.
But I feel it was an entertaining movie all in all. Gram Parsons is a forgotten influence on music, most kids today do not realize the impact he had on the music of the early 70's. Without him, the Stones would have never made "Honky Tonk Woman", there would be no Eagles, he influenced rock and country. He believed in American music with no boundaries. He was a icon that died far too young and was forgotten too soon. And the story of a friendship between him and his road manager Phil Kaufman is also the backbone of the movie. Yes, it seems that it concentrates on being a kooky road movie with stoned hippies, crazed girlfriends and clueless cops. But deep down it is about Phil's promise to Gram. And with Gram's beautiful music playing in the background, it only makes the movie more poignant. I think this movie is Phil's ultimate love letter to his best friend that the world has forgotten. If he embellished it, it is only for the idiots who need a little weirdness to keep their attention span.
