Accurate portrayal of the descent into madness

IMO

The last scene was great. She looks almost like an empty shell, and she's so lost in her thoughts she might as well be. Her misery is so real and disturbing, and as hard as she tries, she can not escape.

Throughout the movie she becomes more disconnected and isolated from those around her. They seem concerned for her, but she can not understand her own thoughts, let alone explain them to others.

Dinner with her colleagues was great. She's been losing it for so long, she can't even put on a front of normalcy. Before, she tried repeatedly to manage the chaos by offering explanations to those around her, but now she just excuses herself and disappears.
She spends days alone in a room, only rarely putting herself together enough to go out to further deal with her insanity.

She doesn't seem to understand it anymore than anyone else, but my heart goes out to her. It can't really be explained, but it is very real. The constant input from the world around you (like in the mall), none of it making any sense, and there being no one you can really communicate it to (not even yourself). You keep trying to make things work, but you're always slipping deeper down the spiral of madness until you're gone forever, like her empty eyes in the last scene.

You really summed it up very well and I agree 100%.
