I'm American and I loved this movie.

It was an excellent production from our Aussie cousins. It was funny, witty, romantic and held my attention rapt from the start. I really believe the Australians do a better job at writing scripts than the Brits, as I find most British productions to stiff in the lip, to serious or onerous.

The actors, Rhys Ifans and Miranda Otto were absolutely right on in this show. I've not seen Rhys before but was impressed with his depth. Miranda, who wouldn't remember her from LOTR.

I also noted that this production was written and directed by Balsmeyer who previously has worked on the story line of many big name movies which I'm sure said experience contributed to this one's success.

Hope to see more of this kind of work from Australia.

That director, cast and crew did an awesome job. Taking an improbable concept and turning out a stunning romantic, comic beauty of a film. Very, very, memorable and fresh.

I miss Big Band music and talented singers. Leonard Cohen is my idol. Civility, harmony, unity!

I'm a middle-aged American woman and I loved this movie. It was on the Independent Film Channel and, by its title, I hadn't planned on watching it. But it was on over New Year's weekend. And being bored, I decided to check it out. I was stunned at how much I enjoyed it. Of course the plotline was preposterous and the townspeople lacked any sense of curiosity regarding the "Professor", his name, etc. But there wouldn't have been a story otherwise!

I still think it should have been given a different title. I was amazed to learn that Rhys Ifans is the same actor who played the unkempt roommate of Hugh Grant in Notting Hill. What a transformation! There's actually a very nice looking man under all that scruffiness.

Incidentally, I'm wondering if anyone other than me believes there may have been a stunt double for Miranda Otto in the fountain scene. There seems to be a point just as she's about to fall into the fountain where the film editing is a little choppy and the actress' face appears different. Maybe it's just my imagination...
