This is such a funny movie. I haven't seen such a funny movie since crackerjack and the dish. If you disacree with me than ... pftttt ....... but no it is a good movie. Miranda otto is hot, rhys is a great comedian and a fabulous aussie cast. makes me feel good to be an australian video shop manager.
If you've noticed, all movies include stereotypes and innacurate portrayals of people from certain cultures. Not trying to sound rude or anything, but that's just how they are.
I haven't seen this movie yet...but come on.....even the title sucks."Danny Deckchair"......What a moronice piece of crap on a stick frying on the barbecue...AND I HAVENT EVEN SEEN IT! Disgrace to all movie go see....Collateral, Spiderman2, Bournce Supremacy, or the Village.........................But not this pice of $hit.............................. HATE IT ALREADY HATE IT!
Just released, limited here in US, hoping will pop up here in Utah so I can see it, thanks for the good review - if I can't catch it in theatre, i'll grab it on DVD!
I enjoy Rhys and Miranda in their previous works, it sounds like I'll enjoy them in this as well.

I saw the movie tonight after getting free passes at a local coffee shop. I will admit, I didn't expect much from it. With a name like "Danny Deckchair" I didn't expect anything but 90+ minutes of free AC. I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. Yes, you could see a lot of the conflict of the movie coming a mile away, and yes, the vehicles they used to get you to the end have been used countless times, but it was a wonderful movie. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would watch it again. Don't let the name turn you off, it's the worst part of the movie.
I don't care if everyone likes this movie, but these people bashing it are mostly people who haven't even seen it. I really liked it and am sorry I hadn't been expecting much from it.
Doesn't the title come from what the news reporters were calling him?
"I just saw it on DVD. I thought it was a cute little film and I enjoyed it! " I completely agree, a bit redundant at the end, but I really liked it - it was a cute film
This is a pffffttt to the folks that didn't enjoy this bit of escapism. The characters were so out there, and the idea of being able to get out of your crappy life and get near real people is far too appealing. This DVD which I luckily found on EBAY is a permanent resident of my DVD player. When I get down, I switch it on.
I'll tell you what, I'm an avid movie watcher and collector, and I loved Danny Deckchair! I stumbled across this jewel in the $4.99 bin at my local video store, and bought it only because it was cheap and had a decent cast. I was so pleasantly suprised with this movie I have done something I NEVER do, recommended it and LOANED it out to several friends. That is probably the most respect I could give this, or any film. By the way, everyone who took up my offer absolutly loved it! The U.S. is kind of used to being the "movie mill", it's so refreshing to see this great of a film come from outside of Hollywood. Looking for deals on bulk helium in Florida;)
While not being the apex of cinema, 'Danny Deckchair' is an awesome movie. Even though you can see the plot coming a mile away, the movie is still alot of fun. Can't believe I waited 2 years to see it, but since everything else in my local video stores is either garbage, or I've seen it, this was a very warm, welcome surprise. Two opposable-thumbs up.
I loved this movie. No, its not gonna win any oscars but it is what it is- a cute film. I haven't seen many australian films but from what i've seen i really like them-one of my favourites being Muriels wedding. Can anyone reccommend any more films like this (australian or other)-where the 'loser' realises that they are better than they give themselves credit for?
hey look, a reply to a 7 year old post! but I just watched the film this evening, and found it really charming. another "losers" know whats really important in life australian comedy is "the castle". i dont know if it's on dd, but it's on netflix streaming. i quite enjoyed that one
