True Story?

Is this film based on the guy from California who tied weather baloons full of helium to his lawnchair and floated up to 16000 feet and was seen by planes coming into LAX? I haven't read the synopsis, but it sounds like it. The guy went on to give speeches about his adventure, ultimately hiking off into the woods and shooting himself.

it seems to be based on Larry Walters. http://www.snopes.com/spoons/noose/balloon.htm

The working title of the film was Larry Lawnchair, but released as Danny Deckchair, so it may have been inspired, but maybe they were worried they would be sued or something -

I guess a litte loosely based on just the idea alone of a guy going up with some balloons. The real life story of Walters was pretty tragic, though - nothing like the kooky cool stuff that happens to Danny.
