I've seen many weird things in my life but this was over the top and over that top. I didnt watch the complete movie and i feel bad for watching those minutes i did watch. I really really - from the bottom of my heart - hope that those bastard that made this movie dies a slow death.
And you guys who find this amusing - you are just as sick and inhuman as the producers.
Watch volume 2 instead - it shows the political statements of "Bumfights" in plain text - something this one failed to do.

By saying that the filmers should die is just bacically saying that your in denial that this stuff is happening in america and you'd rather not acknowledge the homeless. Your just unable to accept the truth.

It's unbeleivable how all of you are actually trying to justfify the behavior of these sick filmakers. Everytime I read that quote above it just disgust me that people are actually that nieve and disturbed in the mind that they actually try to justify this movie by saying the filmakers just want to get the word out about the homeless. If the filmakers really cared they would've made a serious documentary, not showing bums getting injured and humiliated. The filmakers could care less about the homeless situation. They just wanted a way to make some cash.

none of 'us' is trying to justify (or whatever) the 'behaviour' of these (sick?) filmmakers, that just isn't the point!
the point is, these 'sick' filmmakers as you call them are (i think) not making these movies so that everybody can hate them, i agree with the opinion that they are trying to visualize the problem with this bums in america,
and that they give them a bottle of whisky if they wreck a gumballmachine or whatever, is just another way of showing how puked out they are by society, i mean would you do that for a bottle of booze? probably no, but that's why you're in a house with internet, and those bums try to make it to tomorrow you know..
and for the record i'm not sticking up for the producers or any thing in that nature, i just think it's very, very, very good to show the world as it is, not as in the other 99,9% of tv shows, some kind of 'and they lived happily ever after'-world.
I guess i can see where you're coming from, but i'm just saying i don't think the filmakers really care about the bum problem. If they really did they wouldn't be in the background laughing or exploiting bums to do things for their own entertainment. They could have made a serious movie demonstrating the bum problem if they really cared as much as people say. Segments such as "the bum hunter" or "bum police" are made for one purpose only and that is to try to make people laugh and for shock value. The last thing that comes across the minds of the makers are how bad they feel for the bums.

Secondly, they have signed releases with those homeless people's signatures giving them permission to put them on a video. Watch the second one if you don't believe me. Finally, you wouldn't give a rat's ass if it was an everyday person would you? If it was just some guy named bob that just got off work, who was paid by these guys, and signed a release. You probably wouldn't think twice about it. Like Jackass for example. Keep in mind, you knew what it was before you watched it so be careful how you judge the rest of us.

And as for those of you saying the film-makers were 'highlighting the conditions of the homeless' give me a *beep* break! Why not make a regular documentary or film yourself spending a week/month in the life if you really care. As for 'paying' the bums, they gave just enuff to keep them soused[ bout $300]whilst their earnings are in the six-figure category.
What galls me the most is that the creators were spoilt, middle-class WASP fuckers whose wholesome, americana life isn't enuff for them and out of their 'lacking-nothing'- inspired ennui they resort to making a mockery out of the vulnerable. Jesus Christ, and people wonder why this area/demographic/trend of American society is so internationally revilled. This is what happens when you have a certain society whose members lack nothing. In the absence of any problems or adversities they grow bored and do *beep* like this, that is if their not whining to their shrink about being depressed. I hate to generalise and usually don't but American youth is the bloated, spoilt bastard child of the modern world and bumfights and its reception is symptomatic of this sickening culture. These guys think their bad-asses by fighting for the camera?- come to Belfast, Dublin, Limerick, London Manchester and you'll see bad-asses who fight because they know nothing else, not cos their bored or because 'mommy didn't love them'.

I'd like to think of myself as being an open minded person. This film DID show a really disturbing yet realistic view of street fighting which was interesting to watch only if you were able to comprehend it and understand it instead of biting you tounge and counting to ten.
However ive got to say that what the creators did to those bums wasn't right. You can try and justify it all you want by saying 'they got payed' or 'they knew what they were doing'. Thats a load of crap. They were off their heads with alcohol and would've done anything for another drink. Instead of helping them out they used them for their own purposes of making money with this film. They said they wanted to portray realism but THIS IS NOT AS REAL AS IT GETS!. How many everyday people pay bums to do degrading stuff for their own pleasure?
If you cut out all the crap thats what it comes down to. Its not about sanctity of life or bad karma or any of that philosophy stuff. Its real simple:
