Well, I'm watching "Blackball" on Sky as I type. Five minutes and counting (since I last looked at my watch) and no jokes yet.
Not sure why it's bad (maybe Mel Smith's direction makes it look too much like *beep* late-80s comedies like "Wilt" or "Nuns on the Runs") but it undeniably is. Still, it's better than "America Pie: Finger Up My Ass" or whatever's on Sky Movies 2 at the moment.

PS - I have one friend who types his e-mails in Scots. I wish I could do it, but always feel a wee bit self-concious of trying. Just imagine you're hearing broad Doric when you read this post (and for those who don't know what "Doric" is, just imagine you're hearing Orson Welles).
PPS - Talking of accents, the only annoying one is probably the love interest's Dad, the one from "Six Feet Under". Isn't he American?
PPPS - 10 minutes in an one funny visual gag!
Are you slating British accents? Or just the specific individual accents in the film? Because I liked the accents in the film.

I thought the movie was horrible. While I may not be British, I do understand bowls. My father is a two-time Canadian champion, and even he thought this was a terribly unfunny movie.

That's a shame, because I happened to love this film. I don't think you need to so much as "understand" bowls as to know what it is - I mean, what is there to understand? It is the simplest game on the planet to watch (not play - I know it requires great skill to play). Either way, I thought it was both funny, and all-round amusing. Everybody has their preferences, I guess.

to be fair i can understand the problem with the accents, they are all talking west country, and it ain't the nicest of accents to listen to. but that's cos the film's based in torquay, wouldn't really make sense for them to be posh brits or to be talking scouse or geordie or summat would it?
shareExactly. Though I thought their accent were a refreshing change to the ones we usually hear on screen.

As someone born and raised in Torquay, I resent the insulting of the accent. Fair enough if you don't like it, but that IS the accent of the person the film is based on, so what more would you expect?
