Criminally under-rated

I watched this last night, with no expectations. I was transfixed and beguiled. Fantastic film...forgive my ignorance, but was it nominated for any awards, particularly Nicole Kidman? Totally convincing. IMDB - 6/10? Really? Astonished by that!

Agreed criminally underrated, the best thing we can do is spread the word so people can give it a shot, film was thought provoking, heartbreaking and mesmerizing.

Kidman got a Golden Globe nomination for the film.

Old thread, but just finished watching this on Encore.Only caught the last half hour.I haven't seen this film for awhile,I have seen it several times over the years,I always have the same reaction at the ending. I am always amazed at the final scene.
I am not a Kidman fan,but the breakdown scene on the beach alone is devastating.I am not sure who else could have portrayed such an emotional wrenching scene as that and have it have the impact that it did.The realization that hit her at that moment.A perfect ending that leaves open his identity.

You just describing the scene made my eyes well up, this film has had such a profound affect on me, I just cannot comprehend why.

I agree completely.Have you ever seen the film, The Fountain? Check that out as well.It may not appeal to everyone. You either love it or hate it,but it is my favorite movie of all time and the soundtrack is amazing. It is very deep.If you find it hard to understand in the beginning, give it a chance. It is a rich and rewarding experience.

I totally agree, beautiful and captivating movie...this should have a score of at least a 7.5

This film is a masterpiece. I don't understand why 'Under the Skin' was a critical success and 'Birth' was a critical failure. It should have been the other way around. It was brilliant acted, written and directed. And so sad!

I dont as well, Birth IMO is a far superior film, but I guess the film came out far ahead of its time. its too bad it deserves more, such a beautiful film, a tragic poem.
