The G. I. Joe of the old 90's

Chris Latta's Cobra Commander was still there. Bunch of new charactes more on the Good side. They had General Hawk I remember and a bunch of new people. Cobra stayed much the same except for new troops. I remember somthing about a new company taking this show from Marvel right? The animation changed and the storys became a little more chid/fantasy.

I have a copy VCD of Dragonfire the 5 part mini series where Cobra Commander is born again and they actually had a few old characters in that mini series that did not come back in the new 90's episodes. I must recomend to everyone to search on eBay for that Dragonfire mini series. I haven't seen it for about 10 years untill awhile ago. It was very great actually. Some ways sad. *Spoilers* The way that Serpentor was cast out was very surprising and random. I guess the writers had no place for him when the Commander was set to return. Oh well. It would have been better if he were killed though or at least appeared to be dead.

Anyway the new series is mostly a blur in my head as I remember only a few things like a bunch of new ninjas, some new Cobra B.A.T, a drug awarness episode where G.I. Joe and Cobra team up. I remember a Crimson Guard was sort of a main character in that episode. Some Toxic Warrior Cobra guy. Metalhead. Storm Shadow is a good guy. Nozone. I thought there were actually a few episodes too. Maybe around 50?

With G. I Joe being released on DVD I really hope that The Dragonfire and the new G. I. Joe series will be part of that deal. I would hate to not see these episodes again. I know I will someday.

A lot of people seem to hate this series, I loved it though. It's nowhere near as good as the first series, but I still love this one. It had Chris Latta in it too, I've always enjoyed Latta's work. He had one of the best voices in the business.

It's not the years, it's the mileage

Personally its from that series i discover GI Joe, as i was 5 (born in 85) the old serie i knew it later and i liked it less personally, probably because i knew the second first.

Didn't Sgt. Slaughter, the actor and wrestler, host the beginning/intro. to each episode of the 1989 thru 1990 season?

If anything he did some of them. There was also these contests so he'd do the commercials for them during the episodes. You might be remembering that.

I vaguely remember the post-Sunbow animation years/era (1983-86 & THE MOVIE), and the revived 'DIC animation' series (1988-91,92). I do remember the controversy Sgt. Slaughter (the wrestler) caused in the Spring '91 when he begane being escorted to the wrestling arena by a Saddam Hussein lookalike. This caused a huge uproar, and banning from future G.I.JOE cartoon hosting spots.
