never knew that the 80's gijoe were actually two separate series'

when i was growing up, i always looked at the 80's gijoe series' as being part of one series. i was quite surprised when i discovered on imdb that what i thought i knew as the single gijoe series of the 80's was actually two separate ones. i looked at the episode list in the 1985 series and thought to myself, "i couldve sworn there were more episodes than that". then i found the 1990 series in a separate entry and recognized a lot of the episodes listed there.

i still find it odd that imdb has them listed as two separate series. although the main characters in the second series were different, i still found that many of the original characters returned often enough and that the spirit of the show remained intact enough to be associated with the first series.

While I believe the two series share a basic cannon (For instance, the DiC series does aknowledge at least some of the events of Sunbow's G.I. Joe: The Movie re: Cobra Commander) the reason they're listed as two separate series is that they were produced by two different companies. Sunbow for the original two mini-series ('83 and '84) and subsequent daily series ('85-'87), and DiC for this second series.

Both shows featured different producers, writers, animators, and for the most part, voice talent.
