Real Vlad

I read some article said that Vlad's head was send to a place to put on display to prove he was dead. Is that true??

reply

I think it was sent to the turkish sultinate.

reply

His head was sent to the Turkish Sultan, as said by another poster, to prove that the reviled "Impaler" was finally dead.

I am currently doing an extensive research project on the truth behind the man Vlad "Tepes" Dracula. Yes, he was decapitated. It is unknown whether he was killed and then decapiatated or if it was because he was decapitated that h was killed. His head was sent to the city of Constantinople by the sultan. He did that in order to show the people that the Impaler had finally met his end. His body was reportedly sent to the Snagov monastery, located near Bucharest. However, in a research project done in the 1930s, the place in which Vlad's body was thought to be buried was found empty. This helped to fuel the "vampire" nonsense.

btw did they not mix up the father and sone in this story? :P

I thought it was the father that was dracula and the son(Vlad Tsepesh later know as tepes) was dracul, or did he take his father name later on ?

am I wrong ?

reply

Yepp...you're right...

reply

You're not right. Unfortunatly no. The father was Vlad Dracul. He assumed the surname of "Dracul" after he was admitted into the Order of the Dragon, a religious order in the Transylvainian realm. It means "dragon/devil" in Vallchian. His more famous son was Vlad Dracula. By adding the "a" to the end of the surname, the meaning came to mean "son of the dragon/devil". After his brutal second regin, he gained the notable "Tepes (Impaler)" to the name, soon becoming like a middle name. Because of the duel meaning of the surname, his enemies soon exploted the meaning "son of the devil" to use as their own propoganda.

Too much myth and legend linked with his character. Order oof the Dragon was a christian order in Balkans region. They assumed to defend local heritage and Christian religion. Sexual and evil energy from movie charaters has nothing to do with real character.

First off there is a difference between Dracula the character and the real Dracula you peon, get it right.

Vlad Tepes was a real person. And by the way, someone said his body was never found, it actually was found. His original burial spot of in front of the altar in the monastery was moved to in front of the door so people would walk on his grave. That is why when they went to the altar where he was supposedly buried they found just animal bones. Later they uncovered another grave by the front door, in it they found a casket with a decapitated body inside.

And yes, his head was sent to the Sultan, Mehmed II.

Vlad was a real person.

There's no proof that that body was Dracula's. For that matter there's no proof that he was ever buried at Snagov. The earliest reference connecting Dracula to Snagov is from the 17th Century and that doesn't say more than that he built it (which is wrong). Dr. Rezachevici locates it at the monastery of Comana which was destroyed in 1589.

Well according to Dr. Florescu, who is probably the leading scholar on Vlad in the world, he believes it was his body, so do I. Read his book (if you havent already) Dracula: Prince of Many Faces, its a great book and the guy knows his stuff. And yes, his head was sent to the Sultan and that body was headless...
