One of the best films ever

In a world filled with Needless special effects and big Hollywood names taking up more of the poster than the actual film title. This movie was a delightful suprise.

I work at a video store. I make it part of my job to introduce my customers to films that they have not seen. The lesser titles that have strong stories but not Box-Office names. I overlooked this movie for sometime untill one night I was walking around the store and it caught my eye. I picked up the box and read the back of it. The Synopsis looked good, So I decided to get it and make "The Snow Walker" my movie for the night. I watched it three times in one day.

Now I make it a point to always ask my customer's-- Have you seen this movie yet. And everytime they come back to the store they always tell me what a great movie it is.

reply

I, too, have seen 'The Snow Walker' at Best Buy but haven't picked it up yet. It looks like a really, really well done movie, one worth buying and certainly worth watching more than once.

I appreciate your feedback. You've helped me make the decision to buy it. THANKS!

I read on Amazon that they changed the aspect ratio on the DVD version, and the reviewer was disappointed in it - any comment? I loved the movie, but am now wary of buying the DVD.

Guys a i mentioned in another post this movie never got the attention it deserved in the theaters , but hopefully will have better luck in home theaters.
If it had been Tom Hanks the actor then it could have been classified as ecual to the Cast Away etc.
The sceneries are remarkable, maybe the best i have ever seen on a film , for a moment i thought about taking a trip a there(northern territories of canada)...

Good for you, Lovely_Drama! I really enjoy finding those films that got less press than they deserve. Especially films that are simple and unpretentious. May I suggest a few? Perhaps you could return the favour.

- Children of Heaven (I just can't say enough about this one; filmed in Iran, Persian language with English subtitles; check out what Roger Ebert has to say about it)
- Secrets & Lies (Brenda Blethyn's performance will astonish)
- Return to Me
- A Secret Garden
- The Little Princess
- Never Cry Wolf
- Dear Frankie
- The Third Miracle
- Into the West
- The Spitfire Grill
- Amelie
- A Love Song for Bobby Long
- I Dreamed of Africa
- An American Rhapsody
- Between Strangers

Hope some of you enjoy some of these.

I never saw this movie advertised on theaters, the only reason I knew that it existed, was because I had seen it listed on Barry Pepper’s page at IMDb. I finally stumbled upon it at the video store, and I didn’t hesitate to rent it. It was thoroughly enjoyable … it doesn’t clash with “Cast Away” whatsoever … they both have a unique portrayal of survival.

Dear Frankie … I have had such a hard time trying to rent this movie! No one seems to have it. I wanted to purchase it, I was willing to take the risk … but it’s selling for about $23.00 dollars … and I just want to make sure that I’m going to like it before I buy it. I forgot what movie it was the I saw the trailer for it … it’s been haunting me ever since.

...stop missing what you don't have...

There are lots to be had on eBay, and Amazon has it for $20.49.

I agree, awesome movie and great directing by Charles M Smith

I too stumbled upon this movie. I had 20 minutes to kill while waiting for another movie on cable to start--starting watching and couldn't stop! I was amazed by the natural (obviously untrained) acting ability of the inuit girl and the unfolding chemistry that developed between her and the pilot. It shows that good movie making doesn't have to be high-tech and explosive.

I too had watery eyes many time.

What a great film. I love Barry Pepper, a great actor. It was nice to see him in civilian clothing for a change, even though the flashbacks had him - again - as a soldier.

The girl is also extraordinary - I am surprised we have not seen more of here since?

10 stars for me.

Just bawled my eyes out watching this...
it creeps up on you if you let it, and becomes very serious, and lovely.

One must pay attention to the dialogue...

( THESE TWO ACTOR'S BLENDED REALLY WELL & APPEARED TO LIKE EACH OTHER. ) THESE MOMENTS MAY HAVE BEEN SCRIPTED,IF SO THEY ARE BEAUTIFIL MOMENT'S ALONG WITH THE HAUNTING MUSIC SCORE THAT ALSO PLAYS ITS PART IN WHAT MUST BE MY FAVOURITE FILM EVER & THE PHOTOGRAPHY IS BREATHTAKING, THE FINAL SCENE'S MORE SO .I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO CAPTIVATED BY A FILM BEFORE IN MY LIFE, MAYBE S.P.RYAN. reply

Yeah, I really liked it too. The story was so good, reminded me of Jack London's stories, the kind of books I often read at my summer house(up north) when I spent time there during autumn.

Barry Pepper was great and so was Annabella Piugattuk, sweet and talked with a really pleasant note.

It isn't too often when you see great fiction films including great nature and landscape filmography. This was certainly one of them. Left me with pleasant feeling(of course little sad over the girl), after all, I live in an area with similar surroundings(not quite that breathtaking of course), where I've seen wolves and where northern lights are common. These kind of films make me feel gratitude and great respect towards nature, wildlife and wilderness.
