Are there many Irish people on this board, because I find it quite surprising that this film has never had an official Irish release (I checked IMDB to make sure.) Especially when the US DVD is apparently out soon. Are we ever going to get to see it this side of the Atlantic?
omg! That's really weird! I thought that it would come out first in Ireland. The other day I rented it, and it's so funny! It better come out soon over there!
I'm American, I'm part Irish, and I could tell easily that it's a genuinely IRISH^_^ movie (we could use more of those in America, really!!!). I appreciate its Irishness, very much, if that helps at all. ^_^
(By the way the "Kit" part of my screen name is partly in honor of Maeve Binchy's character Kit in the book The Glass Lake. Which should be made into a movie, but hasn't been yet, as far as I know.)
Kit =^__^= =^__^=
(It's better to gain a musician than to lose a daughter. ^_^ Or whatever it was that Johnjo said, along that line. ^_^)
("This means war!!!" [Jimmy's line, at the very end])
The problem is in finding a DISTRIBUTOR for the film in Ireland (and anywhere else it hasn't been released). The distributor has to be willing to take the chance that their investment in making copies, and all the related promotion, etc., will actually make a profit. It's quite expensive to do all that, and well, distibutors are in business to make money, not lose it, if the movie bombs.
So it's quite easy to say "why don't the release it here??" and quite another for it to happen. Don't you think the directors, writers, actors, producers etc. all want it release anywhere and everywhere? You bet they do! Coming up with the cold, hard cash to do it is another thing altogether.
I think it's a wonderful little movie and that it's a shame it doesn't get a wider release, but... sigh...
I was in it(bar maid), and the first we saw of it was at the cinemagic film festivel. It was all the extras, we were told that our best chance was multi region versions
Loved this movie! My wife hates when I swear but even she calls it "fookin' Ceilidh music" now. We saw the Irish band Lunasa last night in Honolulu (of all places) and now I believe there will be fookin' Ceilidh music in Heaven.
Producer of The Boys and Girl From County Clare here. Thank you all for your keen interest in our "gem" of a film. It is finally coming "home" to Ireland and Northern Ireland in the theatres on March 23, 2006, only three years after receiving a standing ovation at the Toronto International Festival Worlfd Premier! Pls do go and see the film and spread a good word around so it will make to UK and than other countries as well. All the best to you all, EK - Producer of the film.
if the above comment is genuine 'well it restores my faith in imdb and to anwer the question which KOLARSAUL was too polite to say is that there is virtually no backing for movies in ireland.since harney was involved it's been a steady slide down hill as her and the people who have followed in her footstep have shown' they have no regards for ythe movie business what so ever!!!
