A movie making milestone

"Love Don't Cost a Thang" was inspired, from it's "urban flava'd" script down to its casting, it is and will remain a triumph of filmmaking for generations to come.

Nick Cannon plays Alvin, a "dweeb" who works on cars. He earns money buy cleaning pools for people in his neighborhood. I thought this was going to be a movie about how one poolboy can make a diference and become accepted for who he is while simultaneously winning the hearts of his peers and the audience. I'm glad to see it is not about that at all! The poolboy PAYS Paris Morgan (the lovely Christina Milian) to pretend they're dating, thus making him popular. Exactly as it is in the real world.

Alvin becomes a member of the "in" crowd, easily enough - with a "Bling bling" here and a few slurred words stolen from whatever hip-hop song is popular now strung together, he is a big time hit.

Much like this movie.

There are appearances by a lot of minorities in this movie: A dorky white kid who is also a mechanic, a fat black kid, a gawky Indian (dots, not feathers) kid, and an unfunny black family (with sex-crazed patriarch Steve Harvey mugging for the camera all the way).

It just goes to show, you gotta "spend some chedda" to "get brained" by "yo' shorty, aight?" Four stars (of five).
