Is Alex's group just another group of anarchists, or is it actually based on a real group or sub-subculture of tagging?

Well, I'm sure there are similar groups like them, but I doubt the movie was based on a particular group. So, the group was probably made just for the movie.

It's based on the propagandy wheatpasting thing

it's still really big now see it all the time in Las Vegas and Los angeles.
