Full Frontal Nudity

Okay, so I rented this film form Blockbuster. I enjoyed it in a stricked This Never Happened sort of way, But I am really surprised at the full frontal male nudity. I guess I'm not so surprised at the nudity it self, but it being in a film at that is rentable at blockbuster. In Europe, the film the human body regularly, they (europeans) don't view it so much as a sexual thing, but just a body. I wish American film AND life was more like that, have nudity and not have it be about sex. Am I making any sence? Or am I just rambling?

Uh, the second one.

i rented it from blockbuster as well. it does seem strange that it was so "wacky" by blockbuster standards. maybe they only edit American movies?

reply

I don't know, but you don't have to hear the movie or see street signs or anything of that sort to tell that it is a european film. The just have a different style then us american's. I actually enjoyed it more. I don't know I just find it refreshing to see uncorupted fims. Something that has not been beaten to death by the MPAA.

Wow, who really cares. I'm sure Blockbuster carries quite a few other movies with Full Frontal Nudity...such as Sirens, Shadowboxer, hell, they have the Queer As Folk DVD's. Lighten up and don't get so overwhelmed when you see a little dick. God.

reply

I am not overwhelmed by a little quote unquote dick. I was just suprised that I was able to rent it with the full frontal nudity. I have not seen Queer as Folk, Shadowboxer or Sirens, so I would not know. like I said I was just suprised to see this. Why the vugarity?

If there was full frontal I must have missed it, in fact, when the police catch the child killer and he's on the ground, it looked as if they digitally erased his genitals. The OP should see shortbus and will see a movie with full frontal and much more.

reply

Modica, just befor the police get to his... Loft O'Death, they show him walking around nude, and you can clearly his genitals. You might have seen a differant version.

What crackwiggs is saying is that he or she was agitated because they are trying to go cold turkey, IE quit smoking. Which in turn can bring on unpredictable mood swings, such as crackwiggs slightly had. Just wanted to clear that up.

I have to say that if I watched a version of Antibodies with Andre Hennicke's genitals digitally erased...euch. The human body is a beautiful thing, really.

I actually was a little surprised at how little nudity the film contained. Bare breasts, sure, seen 'em a dozen times in mainstream Hollywood films. A guy's bare rump (two guys' bare rumps)...well, okay, the close-up of Andre's rump at the beginning was a little 'wow, that's a pretty loving close-up right there'...but that's it! I have to say, I was expecting the nudity to be a lot longer in duration and a lot more explicit.

The sex scene was pretty explicit, but again, there are Hollywood films that have sex scenes nearly as or just as explicit.

BTW, where did you rent/see this bowdlerized copy of Antibodies, modica?

reply

I rented it in a video store in New Haven that is not known for digitally erasing nudity. When Andre is on the ground and the camera zooms out the genitals are most definitly digitally erased. What would be the reason for this? I have seen many films that show male genitalia at an even closer range. It made not sense to me.

reply

That's bizarre, especially seeing as how you couldn't really see his genitals too clearly anyway in any of the nude shots.

I rented it from Blockbuster (they have a 1-disc non-Special Edition there) and I don't think there was anything erased, IIRC. Did you see it on an American DVD or a European one? I'm American but I don't think I've ever seen any mainstream movie that had any nudity digitally edited out.

I hope the 2-disc edition doesn't have anything erased, but I doubt it would. If anything, it would be the crappy 1-disc rental version.

If I am mistaken then a Ken doll had a bigger package. In the movie Eastern Promises there is an extended nude scene in a sauna. It is an American movie. An American movie has full frontal male nudity, while a European movie digitally erases genitalia. What's happened to Europe.

reply

Don't worry, varialectio, modica is simply mistaken. Engel has no pubic hair and the night is very cold.

Haha, I didn't think he had pubic hair, either. Maybe he shaved it?

About the cold...ouch. According to an interview I read with the director, Hennicke never complained about being naked during the shoot, and Alvart really respected him for that. Alvart also mentioned that it was very cold, "as most men will notice..."

reply

Ah, I see. Wondered why they showed his penis at the beginning and then he suddenly looked castrated on the ground. I thought they had digitalized his privates, as well, which made no sense at that point.

I've already seen the worst movie ever made, so it can only be uphill from there.

reply

In the German version there is nothing erased and I think this opening was so impressive because he was naked...Engel bareness was a statement that they can't hurt him, that his inner strength does not need any outer protection. His mind is a fortress they never can hope to overcome.
Nude, with marks of blood and a big rifle jumping straight in the vanguard of a special command...bad ass.
