I never thought 30 was old !

I'm really shocked at how many people say they thought 30 was old when they were younger. When I was 10 years old I remember how I thought 30 was like the prime of life! I never thought it was old. Teenagers scared me, though, lol

I wonder if some people just don't like 30 because it means you have to grow up.

30 is not old. It's just the age when people usually need to get their act together (if they haven't already). That's what scares people. If you are a responsible adult, 30 is not a big deal.

reply

I'm 32 now I believe that 30 isn't old now that I've been there....lol.

reply

I don't know. Some times it takes your whole life to get your act together.

You are so right. I married young and started having kids young. My kids are now teens my oldest starting college. I'm now thinking of my life in a new way. What will I do once the kids are moved out? What is my purpose? I have many friends facing this. Our life is still way ahead of us and it is up to us to live a full life. It is scary and exciting.

I have an uncle who is 70. Hard to believe but he said to me a few years ago he was trying to figure out what to do with this life. He has worked in different careers and lived a very interesting life. He was between jobs and even my aunt who is in her late 60s just started back to school yet again. I really admire their take on life. They are always bettering themselves.

My grandmother lived a full life up to 96. She was still out helping others and doing things to better her life.

I wouldn't worry about your future when u get older once you have kids it is up to them to carry on your legacy

reply

I never did either. I actually just turned 40 and even 40 seems young. lol

As a kid I thought 30 meant more control of your life. I viewed even 20 as young because I knew a few 20yr olds and some lived at home either going to college or just finished college. They seemed to be struggling with figuring out what to do with their their life. I remember not wanting to ever be 20 and just skip to 30.

I never thought 30 was flirty. lol

Heh, i was closing in on 32 when the movie was released :-)
But i'm glad that 30, like she is in the movie, is in the past. So many roads and decisions i had to decide taking back then.
Now over 40 i can relax and just take each day as they come, with out all those worries i had back when i was 30.

I'll be 30 in May and I won't feel any different

Having turned 32 this year, the way I think about it is... 8 years ago i was 24.. so young, naive, athletic and outgoing, fresh out of the academics... and 8 years from now i will be 40 with just work, responsibilities and duties.. those two thoughts combined alone makes me feel old. I definitely don't feel young.

Where in this movie is it said that 30 is OLD? Jenna WANTS to be 30. "30, flirty, and thriving. Why the 30's are the BEST years of your life!" I don't recall anyone regarding it as old.

reply

I guess it depends of the current age of an individual.

For example, a teenager would probably feel like 30 is "old" while a 50 year old would see 30 as still being "young".

jenna does not want to be 'old' she wants to be 30. She wants to be a grownup.

reply

I actually find that insulting, calling people in their 30s "old." Even as a teenager, I never thought that. People in their 30s are still considered "young," "adult," and are still able to do a lot of stuff people in their teens and 20s did. Apparently some teens are so stupid, they think anyone who is older than 19 is ancient, which isn't really fair, if you ask me.

I suppose my brother and I had it different because we didn't spend as much time around other kids our age while growing up. Mom explained to me when I was 12/13, that kids who spend time around adults growing up, tend to mature faster than kids who grow up around other kids their own age. In fact, kids who spend time around other kids often are still very immature by the time the teen years end, whereas kids who grew up around adults are ready for a lot of stuff their childish counterparts are still not prepared for.

reply

yes some teens are 'stupid' they throw parties when their parents are gone and are generally immature. Look what she did--thinking that the popular kids would like her if she did their homework!

reply

I remember thinking 30 was old. I don't anymore.

I'm 30 now and I didn't think 30 year olds were old when I first watched this movie in theaters. However, I must say that I'm far less mature than I thought I'd be at this age

But, in hindsight, adult Matty and Lucy aged normally and they weren't even portrayed as very mature
