Legal owner of photography

This might be a spoiler for those that have not seen this movie.

When a person or company hires someone to take pictures then the person or company owns the pictures, right? The photographer cannot sell them again, correct? We don't know what the details were of the agreement in this story, but I think a judge would say that the person paying for the pictures own them. There would be few exceptions.
