Mistake about machine guns on recent program.

On the episode titled Military Sidearms; Glock Handguns; MG42; WWII British Commando Weapons; Gun Truck Alley, there was an error made regarding who can own machine pistols. Mr. Ermy stated that machine pistols are only available to the police and military. This is not true.

According to the National Firearms Act of 1934, machine guns as well as machine pistols registered prior to May 1986 are allowed to be bought, sold and owned by American civilians. Machine pistols made after May 1986 are manufactured and possessed by civilians who have the appropriate license.

There also any number of state and local laws that apply. I believe the show is filmed in CA and I understand they are pretty strict.

yea tho I walk thru the valley of the shadow, I fear no evil for the 155's are on call for me.

He did not say anything about California, but he might have meant CA law. I'm sure he knows that cilivians can own machine guns as he did appear at the civilian machine gun shoot in one episode of Mail Call last year. This might be another example of an actor reading a script.

If you referring to the Knob Creek Machine Gun Shoot, that takes place in Kentucky. I would assume the gun control laws there would be different than those in California.

If he was talking specifically about the Glock 18 machine pistol he would be correct, as that did not come about until after the 1986 ban.

You may own Fully automatic weapons, sound suppresors or silenced weapons and weapons below legal length(Full length must be 18in, shotgun barrel must be at least 18in and rifle barrel must be at least 16in.)
if you own a class three liscense.

A mistake I noticed is when he shoots the Thompson and the MP40, he calls the MP-40 the "burp gun". This is incorrect. The Russian PPSH41 was the burp gun do to it's extreme rate of fire and high capacity. The MP-40 is slow, why would they call it the burp gun(but the gunshots sounded kind of like burping so maybe more than one was called a burp gun)
