Foroogh Farokhzad , Persian Poet that this movie was directed by her was one of the best and most brave women in Iran. She started writing poems when she was just 14 and after marriage she wrote poems about Sex and she was the first and last muslim woman who did this.

The House is Black is difficult to watch but is powerful film making. A tribute to the triumph of human spirit and faith in the face of cruel affliction. Watching it I drew comparison with Bunuel's Las Hurdes however this was mocking whereas The House is Black is real.
