While I haven't been keeping up on the Holmes hate here I feel I should at least point out that this really isn't John's board. And if people were coming to this board solely based on their viewing of Wonderland, I don't blame them for seeing him in a less than positive light.

Thanks Critic..I pop in and out of here every few months..I'm pretty busy these days..I dumped the Cheating girlfriend and I've been traveling the country. I will be in Vegas, Reno and South Oregon, next month..Maybe I'll see Misty at the Ranch in Reno . LOL!

Holmes was the subject of this movie and Holmes was a scummy kind of person whose life was filled with reprehensible actions. It's only natural that he would be despised and it's only natural that this board would be one of the outlets to air those feelings that people have toward Holmes.

reply

I'm not condoning Holmes' actions but he was acting in defense of his life. Also, don't weep for the "victims." They were dangerous psychopaths full of contempt for human life and probably killers themselves. No one missed them after they were dead, no one misses them now. Holmes was at least a functioning human being with a successful career, despite his many flaws. Sure some of his actions may have been reprehensible, but he wasn't a cancer to society like the four victims and their killers were. I also find claims that Holmes was directly involved in the murders highly dubious. In my opinion, they should have pinned a medal on him for his involvement. He may not have known it at the time, but he allowed the bad guys to kill the other bad guys, saving taxpayer money.

Amazing... You can always count on a few of Holmes nut hugging groupies to post here.

reply

Funny it sure seems like you're defending this creep. You do realize an innocent girl was among those killed right? Sicko.

reply

Noone is innocent in that group, you F'N moron

reply

Honestly? Barbara "Butterfly" Richardson and Susan Launius just got mixed up with the wrong crowd, and certainly they got more than they deserved.

reply

I don't hate him. But, he is an infamous character. Check out his audio recordings on youtube, posted by his girlfriend at the time of his death. They were by happenstance, as a writer met him at a Denny's or coffee shop to do one final Wonderland interview. He goes into some detail about the planning and the people involved. Apparently, he was a nice person but while doing coke he could be annoying and forget to pay people back, or return favors. Rumor has it that Launius used to punch him and humiliate him out of the blue.

I'd just like to clarify that the audio recordings on youtube were posted by Holmes' widow, Laurie Holmes. John had actually started making tape recordings during the time he spent in jail (in 1982) during his trial for the Wonderland murders. After his acquittal, he and biographer Fred Basten connected with the intention that Basten would co-write Holmes' memoirs. Holmes passed away before the interview sessions were completed. Ten years later, in 1998, Laurie published "Porn King" compiled from the tape recordings Holmes had made on his own and with Basten.

I'm not a John Holmes 'fan', but I've always been interested in his life story. Actually did my 8th grade report on him(And got suspended afterwards). However, I do think he got a bad name. While I don't think his guilt bothered him as much as he acted like it did, he didn't do as much law breaking as the others. Sure, he may have, if he had the "nerve". My brother is used to be involved in some very illegal activity(I don't ask about it). Any time a local is injured in some drug crime, if it's a young victim I say something about how awful it is. The only thing he'll say is 'It's a dirty game'. After hearing that enough, I realized that the people who get mixed up in the wrong crowd, make the 'wrong crowd'.

So in a way, how are any of these people innocent? At the same time, is it our priority? I mean, they MOSTLY bother themselves. So usually I don't judge when they handle it amongst themselves.

The movie centers itself around Holmes and Holmes was well-known as a scum bucket. This isn't rocket science.

reply

Americandiablo, I would encourage you to watch the movie before posting such a ridicules comment.

Poop.

americandiablo, I would suggest you seek counseling and perhaps a therapist before posting such a ridicules comment. It's never too late to ask for help americandiablo and you shouldn't be ashamed either.

reply

LOL!! I only speak the truth..I stand by my comments. I have nothing to prove.

reply

You need to grow up americandiablo.. alot!

reply

You need to get a life...a lot!

reply

americandiablo, you sound as though you’re personally offended when someone either says or refers to John Holmes in a derogatory manner with regards to his involvement in these murders. Are you condoning this?

reply

Some people just refuse to see the good side of John C. Holmes. True he was a complicated man, but deep down he was a great guy. Just ask Joel Sussman.

reply

John Holmes may have a good side, but that's not what this movie is about.

reply

I wouldn't call him a good guy. He prostituted his young girlfriend Dawn Schiller when they were on the run. He also had unprotected sex with porn actresses when he knew he was HIV positive. He just assumed that they were bound to contract HIV anyway sooner or later. And he was a liar and thief. Not the worst guy in the world, but still a lowlife with a big penis as his only claim to fame.

Sunburnn,

I condone nothing. I don't understand why you waste so much of your time on a message board of someone you despise. I think they refer to people like you as "trolls". It's lame. Please get a hobby. Good day.

reply

Then why are you here? Think you can answer that without any juvenile name calling?

It shouldn't be a surprise to find posts from Holmes' detractors in a message board on a film where he is a central character.

I personally can't stand the man. I saw a documentary on him several years ago and even those that liked him called him an a$$hole. Many blame the drugs but he was still just an a$$hole with a big d1ck.

Also, the fact that he continued to have sex with women in porno, even after he knew he had AIDS (he even went to Italy to film a porno with Cicciolina) is sickening and makes him a huge, dispicable, excrement of a human being.

reply

Yeah, OP, it's "jealousy". Holmes is a moral, productive, upstanding citizen we all should emulate. I can't imagine why anyone would ever post criticism of him. Drug addict, thief, liar, scumbag, probably murderer. What's not to like?

reply

By posting such things as being “jealous” of John Holmes, The OP is trying to tie Holmes status as a pornographer to this forum without realizing how ridicules it really is.

reply

Don't forget rapist, abuser and pimp! I love this movie but the Holmes worship here is a bit weird. If he did nothing else he raped (statutory) a 15 year old girl who he then got hooked on hard drugs, physically abused and pimped out. That isn't a good guy!

reply

Mmmm. I don't know. Do people hate him in the sense that a lot of celebrities have jealous "haters" or is it just that there is not a whole lot to like about him? The real guy was reportedly even worse than Kilmer in this movie. They left out the parts where he beat a teenage Dawn Schiller or pimped her out to Eddie Nash and others for drugs because the filmmakers believed it would make him too "unlikeable".

I don't care one way or another if someone is a porn star with a 14-inch dick, but generally have a low opinion of thieves and murderers, and an even lower opinion of woman-beaters and pimps. I don't think that's really "jealousy" though. Ironically, I actually feel a little sorry for the guy. . .

His fans like to gloss over the entire thing with Dawn. On another thread someone points out that Dawn "plays" the victim in her autobiography when in fact she was an adult for 4 whole years of their relationship and she went back to him after he hit her. She was a 15 year old girl who was targeted by a grown man who raped her, beat her got her hooked on hard drugs and pimped her out but she's only playing the victim because she went back to him.
