Being a good friend and a sweet person is hot

I actually find this combination very attractive. I'd be a liar if I said I don't count looks at all. I am only human after all. But Pete's character was very sweet. He is good-looking too, but the sweetness, and how he clearly valued Rosalee and cared for her made him all the more attractive.

I'm not slating Tad - as someone has said, he wasn't too bad in this film, not a rotten guy at all.

Pete's sadness when he saw Rosalee falling for Tad came across in such a real way - my heart went out for him. And that stole my heart in this film. The pain on his face when he saw them kissing at the table - aaaw bless him!

All of this counts for more to me that rippling muscles and personal wealth. I know it's a film and not a real-life event, but I fell in love with this film. And with Topher Grace ;-)

but he knew her for 23 years since they were kids, he's practically her brother, normal people look for mystery.

The thing is, he knew her for such a long time yet never made a move. He can't be upset when someone else does.

I know this post is 10 years old but I just found the movie.

I disagree with Pete as this example. Yes, sweet good friends are attractive. But I feel Pete was neither of these things. From the very first scene he was acting like a jerk. Sure, his two female friends are oogling an actor and he's trying to act like he doesn't care but it just came off so obnoxious. Him stalking Rosalee and calling the cops on her to ruin her date (cock block) was offensive to me. And prior to that, he tried to ruin the date by forcing her to work for a fake sick co-worker. That's not nice or sweet. That's creepy and possessive. Even his whole 'carnal treasure' bit, though funny in the movie is offensive to me because it shows this creepy sort of entitlement. They are grown legal age adults; who the HELL does he think he is treating her the way he was?

And like others have said. He's been in love with her for 23 years and did nothing and now that she has the potential to find happiness with someone, he sabotaged it and acted like a sheer asshole. None of that is my opinion of a sweet friend. I became so un-attracted to him that I was actually angry when the story shifted to Rosalee choosing him.

Yeah I think it's really weird that they've known each other for many years since they were little kids, they'd feel more like siblings to each other. I don't have a problem with the "carnal treasure," thing, I feel like anyone could say that and it's just their personal view, but the way he sabotaged her date was WAY too far.

Not to mention he has a beautiful woman pining after him yet he completely ignores her feelings. Hypocritical much?
