Why should the villain be so obviously Jewish ?

It's not necessary to the plot in any way so why taint Jews with this slur ?

In any event, Jews are not victims of common prejudice as to be thought of as drug pushers either now or in the 1970s so what's the deal in hitting on them now ? The villain's religious background has nothing to do with anything- he could have been anyone (well, anyone rich!) so enough with the Jewish references

Before anyone starts, that Hutch gets the girls whilst Starsky misses out is not anti-semitic being chracter-based although the blond Hutch accusing Starsky of 'back-stabbing' felt inappropriate given the Nazis same accusation of Jewish compatriots after the first world war.

your assuming its all this. its just character development man. he could of been jewish, christian, etc. just because they made him jewish does not mean its anti-semitic. and dude, thinking the back stabbing part was inappropriate is just ridiculous. come on man, its what you make it. if you want to believe its anti-semitic, then go ahead and create reason to believe. all you're gonna do is miss out on a great movie.

Could you say that a million other movies are anti british because they have brits as the villans?Just because he is a jewish villan dont make them anti semitic.Just saying he's a jewish villan so the film is anti semitic without any other evidence is a preety poor argument

Dude, come ON! The jews basicly own the american movie industry.
It's actually short of a miracle that Holywood would make a movie with a jewish villain. In any other movie the villains are either white (Blonde=German=evil), African-american (Gangsta) or Asian (Yakuza, Triad)

i'd didn't get the impression that it was anti-semitic... his being jewish has nothing to do with his criminal activity. but it is a pretty good plot device as it sets up the sting at the bat mitzvah later.

Its not anti semitic. In most of the films Ben Stiller's in there are references about judaism.
