the dark humor in it was brilliant, those little glismpes of an all most subtle joke did make me laugh. But this was in between unfunny, idiotic jokes that made the film tread water. It looks like it was aimed between the moronically funny (Rasing Arizona, which is a great film) and magnificently and subtly funny (Dr Strangelove etc) and it landed in the no man's land in between. So its differcult for anyone who loved the brilliant darkest of the original to love the remake, and a poo-and-wee joke kind of guy would probably rather Tom Hanks quote Snoop Doggy Dog over Edgar Allen Poe.

Its the first Cohen film ive seen....& I loved it. It was cleverly funny & moronically so at the same time. Its great to find a movie thats both for a change. lol. BTW, Strangelove is magnificently funny. Its great isnt it?

Well if you are a strangelove fan then you will like the little inside joke in Raising Arizona. I won't tell you what it is let's see if you can spot it.

I hate to reply to a 5-year-old post, but I'd very much like to know the connection between Dr. Strangelove and Raising Arizona, both movies I've seen many times and adore. If I ever caught it before, I've forgotten it.

I agree - there was something a bit off about the movie, and it couldn't quite get on its feet the whole time. While it was okay, and it seemed to get a little bit better as it went along, it just never got there.

I asked the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.

I have no idea about anything that was said in this thread, I really couldn't get past the "word" differcult. All I can really say to that is, wow.

I think most of the Coens' films straddle the line you describe. They usually have a lot of cartoon-type slapstick, sandwiched between subtler jokes and sequences that seem almost to come out of art films. "Ladykillers" had perhaps more bathroom humor than most other Coens film, but otherwise it was quite typical of their style. They love exploring the theme of stupidity, but in an ironically smart way.
