When Goldthwait introduces himself to the old lady, she doesn't know the meaning of Ph.D and says: "like Elmer?... Fudd?"... I know what Elmer Fudd is but i don't know its relationship with Ph.D... Can someone explain it to me please?

She was trying to make a name out of phonetic pronunciation - "Ph" as in "phone", a vowel, and the letter-D "duh" sound...she was unsure, but came up with "Phudd"
