Why remake a masterpiece?

I have seen the original Ladykillers many times. It is one of those perfect films that cannot be topped. It's like trying to do a remake of North by Northwest. It can't be done and shouldn't be attempted. I tuned in to this remake. The old lady was great. Tom Hanks was fine. They were gently amusing, just like the original. What happened next I don't know. Did panic set in? Cartoon characters and a bombardment of abusive language was offered up as comedy. When a stand up comic is dying on stage, they resort to swearing to save the day. The movie did this after about ten minutes. This film has nothing in common with the original. It lacks the one thing that the original had. Elegance.
