Such a disappointing ending

Like Rat Race a few years before, an otherwise good movie left me with a sour taste. If they couldn't decide who should kill the old lady, they should have either poisoned her tea(which she was always drinking), or all gang up on her and made it happen all at once. I really don't see why they didn't just split the money up and book out of there that night. Sure, she would have gone to the police, but they would have been long gone. At the very least, I would have liked to see the Professor kill the old lady and the final scene being her falling on to the boat.

It stays true to the ending of the original.

reply

It was a remake?! I had no idea x(

reply

Yep. The original has Alec Guiness and Peter Sellers.

reply

The point of the ending though is that they all end up killing each other and themselves over killing the old lady out of fear of her telling the cops, yet when she tells the cops about the money they don't believe her anyway. Irony at it's finest.

crakymorton,

Did the rest of the posters even understand the Movie?

I don't let anyone hot-comb out my HAIRitage!

reply

It's not just that she knew what they did. She had seen their faces and knew their names. It was too risky.

reply

Never understood why they told her their real names.
If they had not, they could have just disappeared at the end.
This plot point never made sense to me!

reply

They were in a small town. What I didn't understand was why NO ONE checked to see if she was home before blowing the tunnel. Who doesn't check just to be 100% certain?
