Can't help but connect that with the preacher's "garbage island" quote.

And the opening sequence where we see the infamous garbage scow juxtaposed with the repetitive lyrics in the Negro spiritual about " returning to God. " In retrospect, one of the most darkly humorous scenes.

So convenient. Another odd thing. We see downtown street of abandoned retail fronts like a depressed southern town, but yet, the houses are beautiful and perfectly manicured.

And the Sheriffs office exterior shots looked very Wes Anderson like.
