is series 1 and 2 worth getting on DVD

I have only ever seen a couple of episodes of ultimate force and they were the latest episodes of series 3. A lot people are complaing about these episodes because of the lack of realism but I don't really care about that and I am enjoying the action, plot etc.

series 1 and 2 are both available on dvd together for 22.49 quid on amazon

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0002475QG/qid=1106608922/sr=2-1/ref=sr_2_11_1/202-1064616-2491868

What do you guys think of the first and second series? Are they worth getting?

reply

i think the reason that people are complaining about the lack of realisim in series 3, is although 1 and 2 series were not pure fact they appeared to be more possible then some of the extenede fire fights we have seen so far this year in the first 3 episodes. i would scertainly reccomend getting the double series box set as they are still packed with action and that price is cheaper that purchasing each series seperatly. i do believe if u watched the episodes in order you will be aware of the comments on realism, and even if your like me and watch teh show as a form of entertainment and not as a history lesosn on the SAS then u will have over 12 hours of mentioned entertainment.

Deffo worth buying, but being a student i can't afford! Still waiting for them to be cheap on ebay.

If anybody is still interested in buying series 1 & 2 on DVD then try www.kelkoo.co.uk I bought the box set from wow.com for about £17.00

The first series had Chris Ryan (Brave Two Zero etc) as a consultant, and did seem to be more realistic, he said he refused to get involved if it wasn't pretty real.
He doesn't seem to be involved any more and whence we see a lot more fire fights where more ammo is used and fewer people hit.

It has become more 'American' if you know what I mean.
Still worth a look in, and it does make a change for the accents to be this side of the pond ;-)

Yes on the whole Series 3 has been very disappointing, apart from a pretty good 2nd Episode. The Direction seem to be a bit more amateurish and the writers are just retreading old ground and making the SAS to be like superheroes, which was something that was not an issue with the first 2 series.
I hope, if they ever do a 4th (although I doubt it judging from the 3rd series reaction) that they make it LESS like "Jerry Bruckheimers SAS" and more in tune with reality.

I think it's worth buying - I've just bought the 2nd series and have the 1st one as well. I'm really enjoying the 2nd one a lot more a second time round. I agree with others that series 3 doesn't seem to be as realistic, but I'm still thoroughly enjoying it(despite a very dodgy beggining to the 1st eppy)

my girlfriend bought me series 1 and 2 on dvd for my 30th birthday last friday and i've already watched all of series 1 and halfway through series 2. well worth it. not packed with extras but there is a short but sweet featurette and a trailer for series 3 (the first episode anyway).

Well worth the purchase, but then I didn't buy it, the missus did. Top lass.

I am in the USA and have a region free DVD player & I would give Series 1&2 a definite thumbs up on the purchase front.
Additionally, if anyone cares, there is an 'unofficial' fansite www.ultimate-force.co.uk. Has some pretty good pictures, synopsises etc.

Also, most recent news regarding this Series...Bentley Productions rumoured to start on a Series 4. Formatting expected to be 2 x 2hrs and 4 x 90mins.

Series 3 to be released on DVD in UK/Europe tenatively 4/18/2005...
